I’m putting an old zip drive and disks in a yard sale. What kind of magnet would be best used to destry the disks’ contents? All I really have are some toys and kitchen fridge magnets. Those good enough? I don’t know what’s on the things, I just want to be a little careful.
Hand held magnets won’t be enough. Zip media are not floppies, but are more akin to hard drive platters re data densities and coercivity. Just mount the disks and format them.
I was hoping for a quick and easy solution which wouldn’t involve installing anything.
If you are that concerned about the data on the disks, destroy them. You won’t get much for selling them, and without finding an installed drive, you won’t be able to verify you have done anything to erase them.
