If you get presents sent to you by far away relatives, do you usually open them when you get them or save them for Christmas Day?
I’ve done it both ways, depending on who the present is from. Right now, I know I have an iPod (yay!) in a wrapped present I just recieved from my mom and I’m debating whether or not to break into it…
I wait. I like looking at them. Amazon’s gift wrap is better this year. I don’t know why they don’t use traditional Christmas colors, but that’s okay. They look sorta Martha Stewart-y.
My brother sent me a Cuisinart coffeemaker, one w/ lots of bells and whistles. I called to thank him and he informed me that I was supposed to wait for Xmas. Oh well!
He was just kidding. I think?
The only presents I’ll get are mailed. (Well, except for the stuff my boss distributed; which wasn’t wrapped.) So I’ve got a DVD, two mystery packages, and a suspiciously heavy card envelope sitting on the table.
I’m going to have to start putting “Do not open until Christmas” stickers on presents I mail. I thought everyone knew that if they’re Christmas presents, you wait until Christmas to open them. Likewise, for birthday presents, you wait until the person’s birthday.
These days, mailed presents are often food or amaryllis plants, so it’s best to open them right away. Another week or two could be bad news. “Oh, it was beef stick and cheese? Well, the dog enjoyed it.”
No, I am forbidden from opening the highly intriguing and heavy box sent to me until Christmas Day. Made even more mysterious by everyone who knows what it is telling me I will absolutely love it.
It’s in my trunk.
My uncle said he will back me up if I want to open it early; he won’t tell.
I really, really want to know what it is.
It depends. My mother’s box (with multiple presents) got here Friday. I let myself open one Friday evening and another today (I kind of wish I hadn’t opened the one I did today, because it gave away what one of the unopened ones is). If I decide to let myself open another tomorrow, it will be the one that I already know based on today’s opened item.
These, of course, are the ones that were wrapped in the box - I decided the unwrapped one was fair game, right?
I always try to make sure I’ve got one left as a surprise on Christmas itself - and if there was only one present from a person, I’d leave it until the day. Some years with multiple presents I’m good at leaving until the day of, other years, I’m not as good.
We get a box of presents in the mail from my family every year. We open the box but put the (wrapped) presents in a closet until Christmas.
This year there was actually a present for me marked “Open BEFORE Christmas”! It was a T-shirt with Snoopy dressed as Santa. Mom thought I should wear it to work (I work at a kindergarten) so the kids could see it. But the others are still in fella bilong missus flodnak’s closet, waiting for Tuesday morning.
As kids, we always got presents mailed from England, and we always had to wait until Christmas morning to open them. That’s still my first instinct even with our Secret Santa. If something’s perishable and won’t last until Christmas, then the person who sent it should let the person he’s giving it to know that it has to be opened early.
