I havw a 91 chevrolet lumina 3.1 automatic three speed no overdrive. Ok I have a vacume hose that comes out of the transmission behind the bellhousing on top. I cant figure out where it goes. I have a chiltons manual for said car. It does not have vacume or electric digrams. I have pics of it but no idea how to get them on the network. My other problem is I have an electrical plug. It’s round and has five male plugs and no female plugs. It looks like it should plug into the transmission. But the only plugin that looks simular is a round four female plug. In the front of the transmission near the bottom. I also have pics of this but no idea how to put it on my post .
What did you do to your poor car? Did you replace your transmission? This sounds like somethign where an actual shop manual would come in handy, so hopefully Rick or Gary T will be along, but I will say that dummy plugs in cars are not an unknown thing.
As far as pics, you have to upload them to somewhere like Photobucket and then link them into your post using the globe-chain icon thingy.
Are you actually having symptoms that suggest a transmission problem?
The only application I’ve ever heard of for vacuum on an automatic is a vacuum modulator. According to my info, your tranny doesn’t have that - it uses a throttle pressure cable instead. Perhaps what you’re seeing is a vent tube. If so, the open end of it may crook around into an “L” or “U” shape.
As mentioned above, unused electrical connectors are not uncommon. One clue would be if it is dusty/dirty as if it has never been plugged in. If it is supposed to be connected, its mate must be within reach. If there is simply no corresponding plug for it to attach to, I’d assume it’s not used on your vehicle.
I’d say the prime suspect is the vehicle speed sensor. Its failure could cause both symptoms. My info is a little unclear, but it appears to be located on the tranny near where the right front drive axle comes out, in the lower right rear area of the engine compartment.
