Major league baseball logo

Searched to no avail. Most know Jerry West is on the the NBA logo. Who is on the MLB logo? It is a right handed hitter. Although I heard it was Yaz turned around, but it doesn’t look like him at all, & why would he be mirror image anyway?

For sure it’s a right-handed hitter. The trademark application is from 1969.

The logo is generally assumed to be roughly patterned after the silhouette of Hall of Famer Harmon Killebrew, who at the time was one of the majors’ most feared sluggers. It does look like his stance.

Why assume the image is that of a righthanded batter based soley on the image itself? Since it’s a silhouette, it can be thought of as a righthanded batter viewed from behind, or a lefthanded batter viewed from the front. The same principle applies to the NBA logo (although it’s well-known that Jerry West couldn’t dribble to his left very well…).

Well, the bat’s over the right shoulder & the batter is looking left. 1969 helps, Killebrew was still big then,& it sure looks more like his stance than Yaz.(But Yaz did go pretty crazy in 1967.) Re: West: very ironic indeed going left. He admitted he couldn’t do that well at all in 1960, his rookie year. Why Elgin usually dribbled against the press, in the early 60’s. I wonder if West got a flat fee. The NBA logo is on every backboard,& uniform worn/sold. Wow.

Not necessarily. Come on: it’s a silhouette. Imagine you’re looking at a lefthanded batter from the front. The image is the same either way.

OK i’ll check now.

I just looked at the logo. I agree w/you, but it sure looks like old Harmon to me. I’ll try to ask MLB.( facial resemblance too.)

I had heard it was Ted Williams, but Killebrew is indeed the man, at least according to this quiz (change the 7 in the URL to an 8 to see the answers revealed).

I believe MLB themselves do not know who the player in the logo is. I doubt if is an actual person, since the nose is awfully pointy.

I could have sworn that I read something official from MLB a while back stating that the figure in the logo does not represent any single player.
