For some reason, if you pronounce “crouton” as “crau-ton” (to rhyme with “wow”), it turns into a Paleolithic mammal. “Denny froze in position, spear-thrower to his shoulder, his eye riveted on the seven-foot-tall toasty brown crauton…”
