A couple of weeks ago, I unearthed from our garden about 35 heads of garlic which were mature, and let them sit out to dry and cure. The variety is “Pyongyang”, a spicy strong one from Korea, a country whose knowledge of garlic is unparalleled. Last night I took a couple of fat heads of garlic, sliced the tips off of the cloves, and roasted them for 45 minutes wrapped in foil. We grilled some sliced ciabatta on the barbecue, and dug out soft creamy garlic cloves and shmeared them on the slices like butter. Heavenly!
Ok - first you get me craving the stone fruit and adding it to my list for this week’s FM - then you get me craving roasted garlic cloves. Lucky for you that i have ciabatta in my house already!!
I’ve been dieting and walking diligently and I’VE LOST 13 POUNDS! Hurray! This is “baby weight” from my now 5-year-old baby, so you gotta believe me when I say this is long overdue.
Hallelujah for the wardrobe I’m now fitting back into. If I lose 10 more I’ll never have to buy another stitch again!
Oh my gosh, I know exactly what you mean! I bring my huge African basket and wear a gauzy skirt and pretend I have great plans for a dozen little peppers and bunches of basil and leeks. And I get a huge bouquet of flowers for $5, too!
More power to ya. And you can have my weekly ration of broccoli. The thing about getting up early on a Saturday is that if ya can do it, the weekend lasts longer. I’m pretty much not getting out of bed prior to 11:00 AM on a Saturday. That gives me about 30 minutes to wake up before the kickoff of the first SEC football game of the day. I guess football is my equivalent of your floppy hat and sunglasses shopping trip. Viva la difference.
It’s yummy bramble season here. We’ve been gorging on raspberries (red, black and golden) for several weeks. They’re slowing down, but the blackberries started ripening last week and we hauled in close to four pounds yesterday evening. We’ll eat what we can fresh, then freeze the rest to turn into blackberry jam that tastes like Summer all year long.
Last night I took some of the blackberries from my fm trip and added them to my homemade fruit smoothie. It was awesome! Can’t wait to make it again this weekend.
I’ve been really sick for 12 days, with either a protracted flu or the worst cold in history. I thought I had developed bronchitis because it wasn’t going away.
I’m finally starting to feel better! Yesterday no cough medicine required so I imagine it only gets better from here.
There’s something so wonderful about recovering from an illness. All those little things you took for granted seem like wonderful blessings. Like today I’m going to try to do a load of laundry. I’ve never been so happy to do laundry.
