Make Star Wars in 3-D? Why can't George Lucas stop raping the corpse of Star Wars?

Speaking to Access Hollywood on the red carpet at Sunday’s Golden Globes, George Lucas talked about James Cameron’s Avatar and the success of the 3D movie.

“I make movies like that so I can appreciate what he went through,” Lucas said. “I’m happy it’s so successful, and it works very well in 3D. I haven’t been a big 3D fan, but that film definitely is improved in 3D”

When asked, “Would it push you into maybe doing something in 3D?” George replied, “Well, we’ve been looking for years and years and years at trying to put Star Wars in 3D, but the technology hasn’t been there and we’ve been struggling. I think this will be a new impetus to see if we can’t make that happen.”

Isn’t it time for George to move on artistically?

My guess: he’s not been a big fan of 3D technology, as it previously produced an inferior experience. But they’ve been working on trying to make 3D anyways, in the hope that the technology would finally catch up to the vision.

Star Wars doesn’t need remade. Episodes 4-6, anyway. Leave those alone. I refuse to acknowledge the existence of Episodes 1-3. AFAIC, another production team is welcome to take a shot at those.
