Makeup question for Lady Dopers - Bare Escentuals

How good is the coverage? Does it conceal blemishes well?

I’ve found that it does cover minor red spots and dark circles very well, but it looks a little cakey on larger blemishes. Although I don’t think any makeup really hides those, and some just make them look worse.

I have used it. I love the Mineral Veil & still use that as a finishing powder. While I liked the concept, I have combination skin & found that the powders really settled into the dry places & fine lines I am starting to get at 44. The powders can also be very messy - lots of clean-up around the sink area.

I still have some of the eyeshadows - the colors are very deep & I enjoy them. I also love the “Glee” cheek color.

I guess my overall opinion is that while the colors are fabulous, the results weren’t worth the mess.

Thank you, ladies. I’ve just purchased a sample kit from the sparkly lady. I hope I like it as much as I hope I do. I’ve been wearing powder foundation for about ten years, when I bother to wear makeup. I liked the infomercials (hangs head) and I’ve wanted to try it. Thanks for the link!

Gingy, there is no shame in liking or being sucked into an infomercial.

They figure out their demographic and how to bring them in, and they get the stars that we need to see to validate the product.
The Ebay Sprinkles lady, however, really needs to redo her page. ::::shudder::::
How is BE and the generic for a natural look?

Silly Shirley!

This thread certainly lets you know who’s a girl. You know how there are names you see all the time, but it never pings if they’re male or female? Well, Boscibo’s probably a girl.

Thank you for that link - I just bought some foundation, blush, and a brush. I read all the positive posts and I think it’s worth a try. It was certainly cheaper from the Sprinkles shop than from Bare Escentuals website

Starting to get??? You lucky such and such!!

I recently lost a significant amount of weight, and boy has that bought those pesky lines to the forefront!

How sad is this? I’m going to TiVo the infomercial so I can learn to use my makeup properly.
I can’t believe this.

Ginger - I watched the DVD that came with my kit about 5 times to learn how to apply my Bare Minerals. You’d think once would be enough. Plus, I wrote the steps down on a post-it and put that on my medicine cabinet so I’d remember.

The order of application isn’t the hard part for me, it was which brush to use with which product that was giving me a hard time. As it turned out there isn’t any one right way and the way I do it is probably different form the way any others do it. My routine is:

  1. Moisturize. I don’t use anything expensive, whatever facial moisturizer you prefer will work. I let it sink in for 5-10 minutes or so while I brush my teeth.

  2. I use the Multi-Tasking Bisque concealer with the max coverage concealer brush to cover up any blemishes or tone down any redness. This didn’t come with my kit, I bought it on eBay. Foundation also works for concealing, but Bisque has a little more coverage.

  3. Foundation goes on with the large kabuki. I buff it in lightly.

  4. I use Warmth as a blush/bronzer and apply with the baby buki. I put this on very light handed - a little goes a very long way. For very light skinned/complected people Warmth will probably not work, it is a darker and very warm color.

  5. Mineral Veil with the flawless face brush. I love Mineral Veil! It makes my pores look smaller and gives a soft focus look to my face. This is really the last step to blending, I go over it for awhile with a larger brush (not a BE brush) to make sure everything is well blended.

It may look like a lot of steps, but it takes very little time.

On the DVD that came with the kit it also gives some tips - not all are good. For instance, one tip was “Dip a tube of lip balm into Warmth for lip color”…I did that and it looked like I had smeared poop all over my lips…yuck.

Two comments:

For fair skinned people, “Glee” might be a better choice than “Warmth”.

BE makes a lip gloss - clear - that can be dipped in some eyeshadow colors and can make some really nice liptints. I’ll make a note of what I use tonight & post tomorrow.

I know that the Warmth is going to be too dark for me, but it came with my kit from eBay (which I am anxiously awaiting - c’monnnn already). I’ll order some Glee (found the colour on the official BE website and figured it would be better) when I bother with it. I don’t often wear blush.

Just thought I’d chime in as a BE devotee… I have combination skin, and acne flare-ups around certain times of the month. I’ve definitely noticed that I’ve had fewer problems since using BE. It doesn’t feel like I have make-up on.

I mix the foundation shades together during summer when I have more color to my skin, takes a little bit of getting used to in guaging how much of each to mix in – I usually start by adding a little bit of the darker shade, and add a little more if I feel like I need it. Much easier to match than liquid shades to me.

You think so? I’m so fair I’m translucent pink. My veins are quite pronounced and I’ve got ugly broken capillaries all around my mouth. Used to think they came from one-too-many BJ’s. :wally I will be surfing eBay for some Glee! I’m a fool and enjoy tanning beds but never tan my face. This makes my face pale in comparison to my body. I think that in just about all pictures of myself it looks like I have a volleyball for a head. Can’t ever seem to have the makeup pronounced enough for a picture, but I feel like I look whorey if I used enough in daily application to change this.

I, too, use the Bisque concealer, but I use a different BE brush to apply it. I think their “concealer” brush isn’t that great. Seems to not apply product evenly after you’ve moisturized. I’ve literally had to wipe my moisturized and set face with a towel before I could get the stuff to cling. They call the brush I use their “brow” brush. Dense, angled and small. I find it easier to fill the brush and press on the concealer. Then I use the small kabuki for the foundation, the blush brush for the warmth and the big kabuki for the mineral veil.

Like I said before also, it only takes me two minutes to do my makeup. Drives hub crazy since I then can wait till the last minute to get ready for outings. Love it!

I am definately intrigued now.
I think I might nip off to the sephora store and work my way through the Perfumery Yuck to see the dirt on this stuff.

Another reason I love this makeup is that I don’t get that line of demarcation on my jaw that I used to. Leslie Blodgett, the CEO of Bare Escentuals, actually demonstrates this very well on the infomercial. The blob of liquid foundation is opaque, with a definite border. The mineral makeup blob is sheer, with a more indefinite border. This is the most important benefit of Bare Escentuals. You cover up any flaws, but your skin shows through. With liquid foundation you need to match your skin tone exactly and I could never do that. Hope this helps.

It’s here! I bought a sample kit from the sprinkles lady. 1/4 tsp each of two foundations, warmth, mineral veil, and an empty sifter jar and a flawless application brush. I might actually have to wear makeup today!

Have fun Ginger! All this talk made me get off my butt and order a winter-pale foundation too, even though I rarely wear it. I’m a whole different color in the summer.

As you can see by the Google ads at the bottom of the page here, there are so many other companies turning out a product as good, if not better, than BE. Do a Google search for “mineral cosmetics” and you’ll find some nice ideas. I ordered a few samples from various companies, it was nice not to have to shell out the big $ and find out that you got the wrong product or color. Also, Physician’s Formula (at all major drug stores) has a new line of mineral products.

Just don’t buy the one that hawked by Leeza Gibbons. I hate her .
