Making a run for the Border

I’m planning a trip this summer for a long awaited vacation. I was hoping to head down to Mexico or someplace else in central America. I’d especially like to visit some Mayan ruins. Anyone have any advice, stories, tips they’d like to share? Any help would be appriciated.

Atrael, take a look at Coldfire’s vacation thread. My standard Cancun advice is in there, as well as some other good stuff. I’m sure Coldie’ll be along sometime to tell you about his recent adventure.

Thanks Uncle Beer…I was starting to think that nobody had any advice…and I know the TM never fail to at least give thier opinions. I’m trying to look at the destinations now, but unfortunatly, I’m totally unfamiliar with Mexico. If I was going to Europe, I’d be ok, but I don’t know a thing south of Texas.

If you want to enter any jungle areas, be sure to get your shots weeks in advance, and take the quinine tablets.
Many friends report they were not allowed to see one or another ruin because of this.

Mexico and Central America are both beautiful. Just make sure you get all the required and suggested innoculations, take the prescribed medications and follow the advice on what or what not to eat and drink. You can have a fine time with just a few precautions.

Interestingly enough, the residents of Mexico and Central America get “Montezumas Revenge” when they visit North America.
