Malaysia Airlines 777 Missing

That link says that it was not a door, rather part of a domestic ladder.

Officially confirmed.

There was a lot of other debris found on Reunion that turned out to be from the sailing yacht Vestas Wind that ran aground on the Cargados Carajos Shoals last November. Has anything else been found that is confirmed or suspected of being from MH370?

Some debris that looks similar to the one from Reunion washed up on Thailand today, article in Thai, sorry. Photos not in Thai, so there’s that…

Thai military ID’s it as airplane part (metal)

Note that they conformed it was from A plane, not necessarily MH370

Actually, now it’s suggested that it can be part of a Japanese HII rocket, which sounds possible since I couldn’t make sense of that row of brackets along the edge of the panel as part of an airplane.

It seems to be part of the payload fairing, access panels and brackets match those in this photo, the area where the fairing attaches to the second stage.

It’s now being said that the evidence points to it being deliberately flown into the sea. Also, data retrieved from the pilots computer suggests he had practised the route on his flight simulator.

Updating this thread the search has been called off:

Is it pretty much commonly accepted by the experts, though, that it was pilot suicide? The disappearance in precisely the window between hand-off from Malaysian to Vietnamese ATC seems to be the most incriminating part of it all; that timing is just too perfect and hence suspect.

My theory is that a fire caused a sudden loss of cabin pressure, the crew tried to divert to the nearest airport before being incapacitated, the fire went out with the loss of pressurization and the plane carried on on autopilot until it ran out of fuel and crashed into the ocean. It wouldn’t be the first instance of a ghost airplane, if Helios flight 522 had happened out of sight like the MA flight it would had been just as mysterious.

Why would a pilot who wanted to suicide care about this though? Is it your theory that he was not only suicidal but wanted to fuck with everyone to the maximum possible extent? It seems a stretch.

Helios didn’t make any turns away from the planned route; it just kept going until it ran out of fuel. MH370 made several distinct turns. Big difference. And the ACARS system for MH370 didn’t report any fire or other malfunction at all.

The *nearest *airport (in KB or KT) was immediately after it turned back. Instead it flew along the border of Thailand and then looped around the north tip of Sumatra.

The pilot had posted some videos on YouTube that were touchingly mundane, how to repair your air conditioner, stuff like that. It’s sad to think he was the cause.

RIP

I don’t find that implausible at all. If he didn’t want to fuck with people, he could have stayed home and swallowed some pills or slit his wrists in the bathtub. People who want to commit suicide this way want the world to notice.

I don’t think that’s completely accepted as the answer - absent the black boxes and most of the airplane there is simply no way to prove that hypothesis, it’s just one more guess among many. Sometimes we just don’t know. I know that annoys the crap out of a lot of people who want iron-clad answers (preferably in a TV hour) but that’s not the real world.

Now it belongs to the ages.

I think we don’t know and we can’t know (agnostic? ;)). Sure there are a couple of theories that may fit but it is easy enough to poke holes in any of them. Without some hard evidence it will remain a mystery.

Suicide is extremely taboo in Malaysia. He may have wanted to kill himself in a way that couldn’t 100% be verified as suicide. That doesn’t excuse killing the other 238 people but you have to remember, suicidally depressed people aren’t thinking straight. For all we know, he may have felt he was doing them a favor.
