Another point about the old-timers who were seen regularly on TV: many (if not most) of those people were well known due to one or more of these entertainment sources before being introduced to TV audiences on game shows, panel shows, and talk shows:
– radio personality
– Broadway
– vaudeville
– New Yotk scene
– Los Angeles scene
– Chicago scene
– newspaper column
– wrote a novel
– hobnobbed with some other famous type
Nowadays the purchase of a smart phone with a camera permits anybody and everybody the chance to be “famous for a day” and to run up thousands of hits on the social media.
Fame ain’t what it used to be.
