Malt Liquor

[QUOTE=enomaj]
In the 80s Colt 45 was the king of malt liqors helped out by Lando Calrissian as spokesman. It was then replaced by Olde English 800 which was replaced by St. Ides in the early 90s helped out by Ice Cube’s endorsement. Of course there were others like Red Bull, Schlitz, Mickey’s. And the relative popularity of different brands is purely anecdotal on my part. But that’s how I remember it.

And the stereotype has a lot of basis in fact. Marketing campaigns were specifically targeted to Black people. The 40 oz. is associated with blacks even though PBR, Bud, Michelob all came in that size. I didn’t drink til I got to college and 40s of malt liquor was the beverage of choice. Not that we’d be insulted if you offered a Bud.

That wasn’t always the case. Up until the 70’s, Colt 45 used to have wryly funny ad campaign that featured commercials like this one.

Cheezy comercial.

Dude! Er, dudette. That’s RERUN!

I had some Mickey’s grenades the other week, being cheap and feeling nostalgic. God damn did I get drunk fast!

But does anyone remember the definitions under the cap, not the puzzles? It would be a made-up punnish word related to drinking, and usually pretty amusing.

Also, I was surprised when I first drank Stella Artois because it tasted like a very slightly better version of Mickey’s to me.

Actually, those summer days when it’s hotter than hades and you’re feeling a little white trash, this is a perfect beverage on the rocks. They’re aren’t many beer type drinks that stand up to water melting in them, but this stuff does.

Now I’m not saying it’s good…but if you need a beer over ice, this will work.

I just can’t help myself.

“Rocket Fuel Malt Liquor … DAAAMN!”

Since I’ve been shoved into the working world and am paying rent, I’ve taken drinking 40s back up. Such a deal man, tons of (more alcoholic than normal) liquid at a cheap price.
