Malt Liquor

I am currently drinking Hurricane, and it is terrible. Still, considering I was more interested in a buzz than having a relaxing drink and the county I live in doesn’t allow liquor outside restaurants or any beers over 6% ABV, it was the most cost effective way of getting what I wanted.

If I lived one county over, I could have gotten a much better brew – Lobster Lovers Beer, a Euro Strong Lager that is pretty much a malt liquor, but with a lot more malt in the wort. It is pretty damned tasty, over half again as potent at 9.5% ABV and super cheap at the beverage mart I buy it at. The same store offers a wide variety of super delicious beers at prices ranging from $2 (the Lobster Lovers) to $20+ and I honestly don’t feel like I’m losing out very much when I buy the former. It might be prole brew, but it’s still damned good, and you can’t really beat the bang for buck factor outside of liquor, which I try to avoid because I do really stupid things when under its effects.

Does anyone else appreciate malt liquor, or have an unabashed favorite?

Olde English brings back some mems, as does Mickey’s Big Mouth. The former as 40 oozes, torpedos usta callem. Latter in the green keg bottles. Good times.

I used to drink a lot of King Cobra, mainly because it was $1.59 for a 40 by my apartment in Chicago. I also like Mickey’s, but I’m not a fan of OE. Has kind of a weird chemical taste. Down here in New Orleans, malt liquor is a little more expensive for some reason and regular beer is a little cheaper. And I get free or half price beers at work, so I don’t have a reason to go to the liquor store that much anyway.

Have you ever had a sidewalk slam? It’s not really possible to make them anymore, but you drink about a third of a Cobra 40 and add a can of full-caffeine Sparks or Four Loco… mmmm. Nasty by normal people standards, but pretty good if you’re broke.

In my youth it was Colt 45 and Olde E. It tasted awful but it was cheap. We also drank Ballentine Ale, which came in cheap 40s and just as nasty, but it’s beer.

Used to drink The Bull, Schlitz Malt Liquor, every now and then WAYYY back in the day. Buddy of mine was always toting a quote. Wasn’t too bad as I recall but Schlitz itself wasn’t too bad WAYYY back then either.

Mickey’s is kinda palatable so I’m not sure it is in the same category. One, IIRC Olde Englihs, was foul. I have not tried Colt 45 but I would slam one if it was in front of me just so Lando thinks I’m cool.

But what do I know. I just drank La Trappe (10%, Dutch monk beer) last night. I suppose I’m now allowed some PBR, at least.

As a kid, drank lots of Mickey’s, Colt 45. Never had Olde Engrish or King Cobra.

Mickey’s, when only a big mouth will do. Zero to Shitfaced in under 30 minutes on a hot summer day if you aren’t careful.

Dude, lobster lovers is freaking terrible. Why not get an imperial red like Oskar Blues G’Knight or something? It’s 8.7%abv and it actually tastes good.

Mostly because they’re not sold in the shops I frequent, but also because I’m not of ridiculously hopped beers, so I tend to avoid Imperials or Double IPAs.

When I’m in the mood to get all fortied up, only Steel Reserve will do.

I agree wholeheartedly. Except I prefer the tall boy cans. Which reminds me that I still owe silenus a six pack of Schlitz.

Yep. Normally when I drink, it’s a nice microbrew. Except, for some reason, if I’m playing poker or Magic, then it’s time to bust out the 40s of 211.

Mickey’s has the advantage of having a built-in sobriety checker in the caps. When you can’t solve the rebuses any more, you’re drunk.

Considering reporting this to the mods as a personal threat.

I’ve heard that I’ve been known to indulge in The Mickey’s from time to time. Unclear on any video evidence to support this, however.

I prefer malt liquor to IPA’s because I’m a cretin like that. I’ve had just about every brand out there. I like Mickey’s for the puzzles under the caps. Hurricanes for the ‘taste’ though. Definitely prefer the malt liquor 40’s to the crap high life 40’s.

I actually asked for him to do that. We can’t get the reformulated Schlitz out here, and I was wondering how it compared to the original that I liked so many years ago.

Now if we were talking about Schlitz Malt Liquor…you’d have a valid point. :stuck_out_tongue:

King Cobra was excellent. My Dad hates malt liquor, but even he thought KC was flavorful.

Maximus Super was great also (made by FX Matt I believe). Three cans and I’d be in lala-land.

We used to get Mickey’s and Schlitz malt liquor a lot back in the day.

I remember being really confused when Red Bull first came out in the US (late 90s?); I remember thinking “Why are they selling Schlitz in tiny blue cans?!”
