Well, it looks like the Phillipines and Vatican City will soon be the only countries left on the planet where you can’t get a divorce. The people of Malta have voted to legalize divorce.
Yeah, I saw this on Wikipedia’s front page a couple days ago. The thing about Vatican City not allowing divorce just strikes me as odd. Is this really an issue for them? Are there residents of VC who qualify for marriage/divorce and what not there.
I mean, the only large group of VC folk who can get married are the Swiss Guards and they’re, you know, Swiss citizens. So divorce isn’t an issue.
In essence, isn’t it pretty much a useless ban? Sort of like the Vatican banning off-shore drilling.
I am sure there are plenty plenty of servants and whores who live in the dark corners of Vatican City.
I heard yesterday that the Phillipines is debating legalizing it as well. They dusted off an old bill. Here is one link:

For some reason I was under the impression that Ireland didn’t allow divorce, either.
Will they allow gay divorce?
Kudos to them for such a progressive act!
Divorce was only legalised in around about 1995.
