First thought hoax: but

Shows too many reasonably reliable news agencies running the story.
Guy had to be in pretty poor health to start with, which is probably possible.

South Korea? StarCraft? Yeah, I can believe it. Google will provide plenty of cites to suit your tastes.

Yes, they do have a professional gaming league but it’s nowhere near the level of athletics. I doubt the highetst-paid StarCraft champion makes anywhere near what even a low-level footballer takes home.

Why Blizzard hasn’t released a StarCraft 2 game yet is beyond me. It could be a best seller at US$100 a copy.

The US has professional gaming leagues. The prizes at this year’s Quakecon total $150,000.

I can’t think of anything that would be cooler than watching a Total Annihilation semi-final on ESPN8 (The Ocho!) at 2:00 AM. If they’d do that I’d get TiVo.

Not the first time this has happened. This guy died after playing games nonstop for 86 hours.

Damn. I logged 101 hours of DonkeyKong64 over a period of weeks and I thought I was a world class slug. I’m a novice compared to these guys.
