Man-Dingo fighting

Who would win in a fight between an healthy but untrained adult man and a dingo in the prime of its life?

Both are determined to fight and there are no nearby weapons around.

Dingos ain’t all that huge. I think a healthy adult male could probably take the dingo, or at least scare the thing off. I’ve been shadowed by a couple of dingos on Fraser Island about a year after a 9 year old kid was killed in April 2001. You’re supposed to raise your arms and look large. It was a rather disconcerting but there was a girl about a 100 meters away that I figured would at least help out if things got nasty.

At the time I was walking up the beach and the assholes that I shared a jeep with passed me by without picking me up when the dingos were following me. Christ what a bunch of dicks.

One on one, the healthy man should win 9 times our of 10.

Like Darryl said, an adult Dingo isn’t built like a Rottweiler or Pittbull, they’re more the size of a cattle dog. The only weapon it has are teeth whereas if the man is wearing shoes a few well placed kicks could disable the dog before it had a real chance to bite.

2 or more against one man makes it a lot more in the dingo’s favour.

I’d say the man. The qualification of ‘untrained’ doesn’t make much sense since few men are trained in fighting dogs. But a healthy adult man is 4 times the weight of a dingo, and that’s just too much for the dog to handle. At just a 3:1 size ratio the man is in a tough spot against a lot of dogs, but average sized man against average sized dingo is too much for the dog. The man could suffer some nasty bites wounds, and he would have to be able to endure pain.

I don’t think the person would win. Especially if he/she has no training or experience. I don’t think he/she would be able to kill the dingo. Eventually, I think the person would flee whereas the dingo would be willing to fight to the death.

Based on anything in particular or just baseless rambling?

I’ve only come across dingoes on the beach on Fraser Island. If a lone dingo made a determined attack on me anywhere near water I’m going into the water to where I can touch bottom and it can’t. There, the dingo is going to bite me but I’m going to drown it without significant difficulty.

It must have been really scary

Whilst I doubt (and hope) no one on Earth trains to fistfight dogs, that’s not to say certain training wouldn’t be a factor. A animal control officer or zoo keeper knows techniques to avoid getting overwhelmed or bitten. Generic martial arts training might be a factor, I think this forums already debated a “MMA fighter VS. Lion”

Yes, the environment definitely matters, I wouldn’t rate my chances against a frenzied dingo if I was in a pitch black metre high cave.

Environment does matter, but one on one a healthy adult male should be able to take down any dog.

To draw on experience, when I was about 10 years old I was walking near home with my Labrador and a large German Shepherd ran out from a neighbours house and attacked my dog, grabbed it by the throat. I took 2 steps back then launched a full blooded kick right into it’s ribs. Made a sound like smacking a bean bag. It yelped, let go and ran off.

A dog against an adult, the dog has to get the throat for a kill or grab a limb and cause pain. The man should be able to, even if a limb has been grabbed, do enough damage with the other 3 limbs to the dog to make it let go and/or incapacitate it.

More than 1 dog, more difficult. More than 2 you’re in deep shit.

Uh, you know what else is the size of a cattle dog? A pit bull.

The two competing breed standards for the American Pit Bull Terrier list the weight range at either 30-60 pounds or 30-65 pounds for a male.

The AKC Australian Cattle Dog breed standard does not list a weight, but Wikipedia gives the weight range for Aussies at 44-62 pounds.

Considering the average of the weight ranges for the pit bull breed standards is 46.25 and the average of the top weight in each standard is 62.5, I’d say 46.25-62.5 is very damned close to 44-62.

This is a sore point with me, as there have been repeated arguments (even on this board) where people describe pit bulls as very large dogs (including one ludicrous exchange in which someone maintained that they’re the same size as Fila Brasileros – for the record, the minimum weight of an adult Fila is 110 pounds).

What about dingo vs baby?

Can’t say I’ve ever seen a 30 pound adult Pit. I figured around 50 pounds average for the Pit, a little more than the average Dingo. The Pit could be easier to kill if locks onto you with his jaws, you’ll just have to beat him to death with blows to the chest and abdomen. But the Dingo may be more dangerous, I think he’d want to tear flesh and he might get in and out faster than you can get a grip on him.

That all assumes the Dingo doesn’t just run away, or the man for that matter. This confrontation is kind of odd in the first place, even in a cage fight neither one has much motivation to attack the other.

For some reason I thought this thread was going to be about Ken Norton’s film career.

Anybody else think this thread was about the James Mason movie?

Apparently.

Coulda been Django Unchained.

Here I am all set to say “Kyle Onstott did this one to death” and it turns out it’s been done to death in the last four posts. Dayum.

Am I the only one reading this entire thread with an Australian accent?

Well, the only one who isn’t Australian, that is.

Based on personal experience and knowledge.

That’s assuming the dingo will follow you into the water. He might just wait outside for you to come back into dry land.

You got to take this into account. How is the man going to kill the dingo? I don’t think he’s going to get off clean blows or bite the dingo to death. The dingo is too quick and agile for that to work. I think the man is going to have to break some legs and then choke the dingo to death. If you don’t have much experience in those kinds of holds, what are you going to do?

I voted for the dingo to win. Now I’m not so sure. They aren’t as big as wolves, are they? I’m thinking that the man might be able to kick it hard enough to injure it, then follow up with some stomps. This, of course, is assuming that the guy has boots, and the animal isn’t able to dodge away from that first kick.

If you scaled up to a big wolf, I would definitely vote for the animal to win.
