My mom threw out my copy of Aristotle’s* Poetics (Comedy)*.

Man, I feel for you. I lost my copy recently when we were moving offices at work. Never saw that box again… and I *told *the moving guys to be careful with it.

There was somebody who posted here once about how a relative had died and the family had cleared his house out so they could sell it. Among the possessions that were tossed in the garbage because the family wanted the house cleared quickly was a complete run of Playboys from its first issue into the seventies. Several of us pointed out that collection could have been sold for about ten times more than the house.

This is why you contact Estate Sale professionals. A good one will either be able to price everything, or has an expert on call who will know.

I had a friend whose mother got so disgusted with “all those comics cluttering your room” that she had the girl’s father build a special shed in the backyard for them.

The day her daughter left for college, she set the shed and the entire comic book collection on fire:eek:

I still have my Legion of Super Heroes collection–all the comics from Adventure #303 on.

The most surprising thing about this is that a GIRL collected comics!

But really, you do not destroy someone else’s possessions without their permission.

What I’m wondering about, is the article says that the contractor is going to get 50% of the final sale price. Presumably, the other half is going to the dealer he’s working with? Isn’t that dealer kind of ripping him off royally? I thought the standard fee for that sort of thing was 10%.

Saw that myself and thought what a rip off.

I wonder though, would he have to pay tax on the sale price? I’m not sure how tax works in the US on that sort of ‘windfall’? So maybe after tax he gets half?
