Manafort resigns over Ukraine connections

This seems like it should be a big deal especially given the fascination Trump has with Putin and his take on their aggression.

Is this as bad as i think it is? If so, will anything come of it? Will the media make a point of covering this? Will the Attorney General (assuming it is his job to investigate and press charges for this type of infraction) be able to get past inevitable cries of partisanship to prosecute? Would the American people even care about this possible felony? Does Donald lose support as a result?

It’s really, really bad. It’s just hard to see how it makes Trump look any worse, and it’s probably less interesting for the media than Trump’s mouth. Saying outrageous things might be his best campaign strategy. If he shuts up long enough the media will get more interested in his various scandals.

HER job.

In practice, it’s very hard to prosecute something like this. Paul Manafort is no more a Russian agent than George Bush is a Saudi agent.

Scandals don’t have to be crimes to be scandals, contra Hillary supporters.

Don’t forget - Trump’s foreign policy advisor, Carter Page was just in Russia talking about how America expectations of liberalism and freedom is just a hypocritical club for beating up its rivals.

Video of the speech at that link.
Also don’t forget that it was Trump staffers who insisted that the GOP Party Platform soften its language on Putin’s attack in Ukraine. Originally, the platform was going to take a strong line suggesting that we send weapons to the Ukraine-independence group.

Softening the condemnation of the pro-Russian assault was Trump’s only contribution to the Republican platform.

So yeah, I guess with the discoveries in the OP, we can now call this case closed.

Donald J. Trump, Republican nominee for US President, is a patsy for Vladimir Putin.

Manafort may have committed a felony by helping pro-Russian groups in Ukraine pay lobbyists in Washington.

It’s more likely Manafort quit because he was demoted.

Where is Trump going to get his anti-American Russian propaganda now? Will he just be stuck with only the white nationalist propaganda? This would cut his tweets in half!

And now, he’s toast. Resigned today.

This really should be the biggest political scandal since lying about the Iraq War at a minimum. Maybe Watergate. But it’ll be in the news until Monday.

Merged similar threads.

No shit. Now, he’s probably on Expedia.com, booking a flight to Ecuador in a Starbucks right by the airport, wearing a wide-brimmed hat and a fake mustache.

It’s not nearly as big as Watergate. Trump isn’t president, and in fact, his campaign was already doomed. It’s not like this news will sink a sitting president, or even a candidate with half a chance of winning.

Honestly, it’s just another thing with the Trump campaign.

Gosh, bigger than Iran-Contra? Nah.

Manafort is an advisor to a guy who merely aspires to hold public office.

Iran-Contra was a silly oversight. A president committing treason is a pretty big deal…

“Since Watergate” implies it’s less than Watergate, so we’re in agreement that Watergate is bigger. However, if Trump were president and implemented the steps his team suggested, I’m not so sure.

It was JUST the Trump campaign? No one else? It extends no farther? I think this deserved both House and Senate investigations to determine if that is actually the case.

Also, should any info from this weeks ‘official briefing’ end up passed along, Carrot-Strop needs to spend a nice long stint (to cool his short little fingers) in ‘The Pollard Suite’ in Petersburg, VA.
(I hear that cell is YU-uuuge…!)

Regardless of it’s place in the pantheon of presidential scandals, how is this not a bigger deal? Especially in light of the changes Trump made to the GOP platform. The only changes, mind you. How does this not absolutely sink a campaign? I mean, it’s already taking on loads of water, but I would have thought this would be the equivalent of dropping a grenade in the middle of the already sinking ship.

Well, mistakes were made.

But they were made in the passive voice, so it’s OK.

And whatever it is that Manafort did were just “things”, and simply a distraction. So no big deal! (According to Trump’s son, anyway. You can trust him)

You know… whatever those things were. Like working with the Russian government to undermine American policies. Just some minor stuff.
