Manhattan Prosecutors file criminal charges for Trump re Stormy Daniels case - ongoing discussion here (Guilty on all 34 counts, May 30, 2024)

Exactly. I seriously doubt there is anything Jordan and the other yahoos in the House can do to take funding away from the Manhattan DA. And I don’t expect Bragg to even respond to such a stupid letter.

Just like Alvin to spoil all our fun…

NYPD Commissioner Warns Top Cops Over Leaking Donald Trump’s Mugshot

One Police Plaza, which houses the office of Commissioner Sewell, quietly reminded inter-department officials on Sunday that the NYPD does not release the mugshot of anyone arrested in New York City.

Ahh, gee whiz, Spanky…

The NYPD is about to find out how secure their computer system really is, because those pictures are priceless.

Anyone know how to submit a FOIA request in the state of New York? Asking for a friend.

Which is a very strange position for a Trumpist to take, since Trump’s entire presidency was uniquely characterized by doing things that were never done before (for good reason). From the very first day of lying about the size of his inauguration crowd to the very last day when he trashed longstanding protocol by snubbing the incoming president, Trump’s entire presidency was a slapstick series of violations of protocols, ethics, and in many cases, of law. But no, we must never do anything that’s never been done before, especially when it comes to enforcing the law in a way that inconveniences the Orange Peril.

Honestly, whenever Trump did something, all I could think of, was Benny Hill being chased by a bevy of young ladies, dressed in their underwear, to the tune of “Yakety Sax.” Slapstick indeed.

Ha! That’s a good point. Journalists will pay big bucks for those pictures, and I expect there’s some low wage employee who would have no problem risking their job…

As much as I’d love to see such a mug shot, I hope it’s never leaked and I expect it probably won’t be. If it ever is, it would be a gift to the Republicans as proof positive that the Orange One is a victim of political persecution. His sycophants will, of course, believe this no matter what, but no one cares as long as a majority of sane people observe the proceedings as the impartial administration of justice.

Nitpick: your friend would need to submit a FOIL request.

Pity we won’t have a Pelosi moment of him tearing it up on camera.

i believe lawrence o’donnell did that for him last night.

from what i could tell from yest. tea leaves. they did not need cohen to testify, so the grand jury must not have placed much credence in trump’s defence witness.

#ReleaseTheMugShot!

Is there a typical time of day these things happen? That is, by what time can folks be pretty sure it isn’t happening today? Presumably if nothing happens by 5PM Eastern it isn’t happening today, but I’m wondering if there is an earlier time.

Thanks,
Brian
(if I were the DA, even if it was planned for today, I’d delay just to lessen the chance of violent protest)

Lol, I listened to him this morning and it sounded like he was quoting my post here:

I’ve added another beaut to my hypocrisy collection.

Yesterday the Wall St. Journal ran an editorial harshly criticizing the pursuit of criminal charges against Trump over the Stormy Daniels payout as “political”*, insisting that any prosecution of an ex-President should be for a Very Serious Crime and involve “indisputable” evidence.

Back in January 2001 the Wall St. Journal ran an editorial headlined “Yes, Indict Clinton”, urging his prosecution for what seems like a matter comparable in severity to what Trump is accused of (Clinton lying to the grand jury about his relationship with Monica Lewinsky).

*criminal investigations of political figures virtually always have a political dimension. It’s unavoidable.

the grand jury is not seated today. they meet on weds., so perhaps thursday or friday if they return an indictment? tea leaves are not clear this morning.

Yeh, right, because the federal government funds state elected offices all the time, eh? Good grief. Even for these yahoos, that’s truly dumb flailing.

I’m not sure whether to be annoyed that he’s getting arrested for such a trivial thing that can’t lead to anything more than fine at most, or whether to be happy that we’re establishing the procedure and precedent for him to be arrested. I think the latter?

Assuming ‘using election funds to pay’ is what is being charged for - what is the penalty if convicted?

I would assume he would plea it out to a fine and a slap - I think there is precedent for that from others that have been charged with similar.

Cohen got a prison sentence for paying Stormy illegally, but there might have been more involved (of course, we don’t know all the charges Trump might be facing). Also, sentences tend to be harsher in the federal system.

In general, this type of thing doesn’t call for incarceration as punishment for a first offender.
