Manhattan Prosecutors file criminal charges for Trump re Stormy Daniels case - ongoing discussion here (Guilty on all 34 counts, May 30, 2024)

In her book “Full Disclosure,” Stormy Daniels wrote that she told an “extremely abbreviated” version of her story in the phone conversation with Gloria Allred and left out details about sex with Donald Trump.

“I did not tell her all the sex details. I did not trust her. She wanted me to accuse him of force, basically rape, I did not want to continue that conversation,” Daniels said.

Trump attorney Susan Necheles suggests Daniels is making this up as she sits on the stand.

Daniels shoots her a look, cocking her head and says "No.

Trump attorney Susan Necheles continues to ask Stormy Daniels about her testimony that she was threatened in 2011 by a man in a parking lot.

“This man never existed, did he?” Susan Necheles asks.

“He absolutely existed,” Daniels says.

Necheles then asks if the story was made up.

“None of it’s made up,” Daniels says.

Daniels says that Michael Avenatti hired a sketch artist to recreate a description of the man and offered $100,000 to whoever could identify him.

The court is taking a short afternoon break. Stormy Daniels is expected to resume her testimony soon.

Donald Trump pursed his lips and exhaled as he walked down the aisle.

Back at cross, today will end at 4:30pm, resume on Thurs.

Done for the day. Trump’s usual post-court speech.

“Disaster for the DA. Legal scholars have never seen anything like it. I should be campaigning. I’m leading in the polls.”

Something about college protesters and Gaza. Agitators need to be treated like J6 hostages. It’s 80% agitators, 20% college students. Problem from the left, not the right. Economy sucks, something about inflation. Bunch of commentators he advises reading.

“We’re stuck here in this hoax trial when we should be in Georgia, Wisconsin, campaigning.”

Judge Juan Merchan is back and Stormy Daniels is on the stand.

Before the jury entered, Trump attorney Susan Necheles confirmed that her cross-examination would continue into Thursday. Wednesday is an off day for the trial.

Merchan said court will end at 4:30 p.m. today.

Prosecutor Susan Hoffinger said there will also be a redirect of Daniels.

Stormy Daniels testified for a total of 3 hours and 44 minutes today.

Necheles, got rather aggressive at the end of the day, going at Daniels, trump should be happy with her.

Thanks so much for this (as it were) blow-by-blow. I’m curious but don’t have the endurance to experience it in real time. Really appreciate your summation(s).

I wish Trump would get called out on this. Please, Mr. Trump, name one single time “legal scholars” gave their opinion on something and the judge agreed and ruled the way the “legal scholars” said he should (because of what they said).

No shit. This is just like when he said “legal scholars” on both sides wanted Roe overturned.

Frankly, I’d like to know who these legal scholars that Trump so often mentions, are. Do they do legal research, draft headnotes for cases in reporters, write papers for publication in law journals, lecture at law schools, annotate statutes, write textbooks? You know, typical legal scholarly stuff.

Or are they authors of op-eds who have never seen the inside of a law school, but who Donnie likes?

I suspect the latter, but at any rate, all legal scholars have names. Donnie, name your legal scholars, their qualifications, and offer some examples of their scholarship.

(He won’t, likely because he can’t.)

Neither, because they don’t exist at all. It’s just a “many people are saying” construction.

Maybe something like:

When reaching a verdict, the jury should ignore the sworn testimony attesting hat he was an sexual predator who enjoyed being spanked with a copy of a finicial magazine.

Scholars. You know, the legal kind. Top. Men.
You’d probably know them. People are saying they are the best legal scholars they’ve ever seen. Big strong legal scholars with tears in their eyes.

Trump does not feel the need to back up his statements. Asking him to only gives the opportuinity to continue a conversation in whatever way he wants. Trump does not ask questions, except maybe rhetorical ones; it gives the impression of uncertainty. He does not answer questions, because it lets someone else direct the conversation. Trump makes statements. It’s a rhetorical device to maintain his illusion of strength.

Probably the likes of Eastman, Giuliani and their vile ilk.

True. He’d make a lousy Doper. The minute he posted “many people are saying,” or “legal scholars,” or similar, we’d be on him with “Cite?”

This reminds me of something and this seems like as good of place as any to ask about it. Trump is really stuck on the idea of Cohen’s payment being “legal expenses”. The way he repeats this over and over has caused me to wonder… is he really that goddamn dumb? Does he think the word “legal” means the action cannot be performed in an illegal manner? He seems to be conflating two different definitions of legal to create a new definition that favors him in the moment.

He wasn’t declaring the transaction to be ‘legal’, he was categorizing it in such a way that it could be written off as a regular business expense. It was “Legal Expenses” in the sense that he was paying a lawyer.
Had he not written it off and properly categorized it as a draw (income for him), he wouldn’t be in court right now (for this case).

He means Alan Dershowitz, I think. Real legal scholars like that.

You know how when Trumpie cites “facts” based on “many people are saying …”? That’s them. Also known as “they” in phrases like “they say that …”.

Although “many people” are not an infallible source of knowledge. When the Orange Fuckstick proclaims “many people don’t know ‘x’” this is to be taken to mean “I just learned ‘x’”.

So whatever happened to Manny Peoples?

I see other folks have addressed this being a parody account, which I knew. But he’s very educated and informed and he doesn’t like trump. He seems to have an inside ear. Is that the right term?

It doesn’t sound right, but I think it is right. Shit I hate when this happens.

There was some “legal scholar” (who was a IRL lawyer at least) bloviating on Fox that the Stormy Daniels case is bogus and just to attack trump. Fortunately, hardly any of use watch Fox “news” much.
