I would definitely agree this bunch of lawyers are much better at their job than Habba. She’s pretty much a joke. But I do feel by letting their client (DJT) call the shots to this apparent extent they are making fools of themselves.
This is why Trump is being represented by some quite good lawyers and not the literal best lawyers in the world. He’s a former POTUS in one of the most high profile important cases in the history of America. The best lawyers in the world should have been lining up to take it. They aren’t cos he insists on this kind of bs. He is literally the worst. Client. Ever
Called it!
Though I am constantly thinking wtf didn’t the documents case end up with a judge like that? Why did the case where he is literally caught on tape commiting the crime and facing easily over a decade in prison end up with Aileen freaking Cannon!?!
Not often, thank goodness, but it happens enough to be a pet peeve of my wirking life.
I’m not certain of Daniels, but Cohen is certainly more interested in helping the Cohen “brand” and whatever mileage he can milk that for than helping the prosecution win their case. Just my take on Cohen. Ever since he flipped he’s just been playing the part of good guy. It’s not real.
So who are we expecting the defense to call as witnesses?
And lulz at Donald beckoning for Jeanine Pirro to give Fox commenters their marching orders (speculating, of course).
I predict (Oh, boy!) that Cohen is going to be a model citizen while on the stand. He’s been waiting to get a chance to stick it to Trump for a long while now. He must know that now is the time. He’s no dummy, and he was a lawyer. I say he’s gonna be all business and respectful of the venue.
(I also predicted that there was no way a goof like Trump could win a presidential election!)
I agree. He fully understands that this is his chance to stick the dagger in, and he’s not going to waste the chance. And he also understands that this means being a model witness, however satisfying in the moment belligerent insult might be.
He can simply refer to times in the record that he insulted the T-rump. “No, I called him a ‘festering pile of maggot shit’ on two occasions. On the other time, I called him an ‘impending prison-cum-dumpster.’”
As long as he’s all business, calm and without a smirk.
Amen.
Some appear to have more faith in Cohen than I do.
I know he’s had to make a living since the Plea Agreements and the incarceration. I know the (metaphorical) stench of TFG tends to lower one’s stock price.
But he’s been fairly unhinged and irrepressible since this all went down.
He needs to have another mode if he’s going to be effective.
I truly don’t know if he does.
Perhaps it’s just wishful thinking on my part, but I’ve seen him multiple times on news shows (MSNBC, etc.), and he comes across calm and professional. Nary a rant. I think he knows how to behave within a given arena.
Oh, I fervently hope so.
But I’m reminded of a zinger for the ages that Hillary Clinton posted about Donald Trump:
A man you can bait with a tweet is not a man we can trust with nuclear weapons.
Whichever of Trump’s attorneys is thought to be the most adroit witness-troll is likely to handle Cohen’s cross. Cohen absolutely has to keep his cool, try decaf before trial, maybe up his beta-blocker dosage.
For the most part (IIRC), he appeared on ‘friendly’ news outlets and didn’t come under heavy fire.
Very fair point.
he needs to be the michael cohen that answered aoc’s questions in court.
i am putting a bit of faith in cohen. he was a lawyer, he respects the court, just take a deep breath, count to 3 or more, pause and answer the questions.
Cohen is excitable, but he’s also smarter than he’s often given credit for. He also knows Trump and his dirty tricks better than almost anyone.
I’ll never forget the first time I saw that guy being Trump’s mouthpiece on the tee vee. He personified slime to me. But in the intervening years, I think he’s one of the few who has truly learned the lesson of his misbegotten life’s choices around Trump.
I think he’ll be ok on the stand. He knows what’s coming.
That’s my impression as well. He owns his past, regrets his choices, and will use the rest of his life to gain some measure of redemption.
… and very likely will never attain it.
Yet he’s still making childish Tweets. He’s still scum. Hopefully he comes across well next week.
