Certainly possible! In fact, maybe even by tomorrow afternoon. (!!!)
I’ve seen cases where the jurors were all agreed on their first straw vote. Then it’s just a matter of making sure they’re filling out the verdict forms correctly, and if they have any trepidation around how it looks to the public to return a verdict so fast.
I think @rocking_chair said upthread that Donnie sat with his back to Steinglass during his summation-- at least at the beginning. Did he keep his back turned for the entire four hours?
Adding to everyone else’s many thanks for @rocking_chair’s play-by-play. Great work and much appreciated.
That’s probably a good message to end on. Despite what we’ve seen the last decade, I still think most Americans really believe that no one is above the law, and that just because you’re rich and powerful, you don’t get to do whatever you want. I hope this resonates with this jury.
I liked this part of the DA’s closing, towards the end.
It was in the context of saying that “this defendant” doesn’t get special treatment.
One unknown variable is each juror’s personal feelings about Trump. If they didn’t have an opinion before trial, then the evidence certainly gave them a bad impression. If they knew of him and didn’t like him, this case is just going to deeply reinforce their feelings. Even if they are that statistical anomaly and are a MAGA New Yorker, I struggle to see how the aura of Trump would remain after the testimony is over.
If I’m right, and they formed a negative opinion of “the defendant” from this trial, then it will make it easier to return a guilty verdict.
Damn straight, he shouldn’t be able to shoot people on 5th Avenue and get away with it. If I were a juror, I’d relish delivering that message.
Me, too. @rocking_chair The best part is that we could follow the proceedings without having to look at (or risk catching a glimpse of) Donnie’s ugly self.
Apropos of that, I’m still curious about the bolded part.
ETA: @teelabrown If you mention someone when you’re not directly replying to a post of theirs and want them to get a notification that you’ve mentioned them, put the “@” in front of their name and choose the exact spelling from the pop-up menu that will appear.
Well, except for the courtroom sketches. But those wouldn’t necessarily be of a moment in time, for obvious reasons. Never mind, they do catch Donnie’s ugly self quite well, I think.
It’s interesting. I had a look at a predominantly right-wing, bordering on MAGA, message board, and they are, predictably, the opposite of how we are here. To them, it’s all political: Biden is pulling Merchan’s strings, so that Merchan’s daughter gets $93 million for Democrats, and Biden wins the election. Oh and hey, Biden was at the trial today, which the mainstream media won’t tell you. No cites for that or any other allegation, of course; everything is always, “I heard” or “Somebody said,” or similar. Anyway, if Trump is convicted, his popularity will soar through the roof, and he will coast to a landslide victory.
I don’t stay around there long enough to need a good stiff drink, but I’m glad I have the SDMB to come back to.
Yes. Although it should be mentioned that members of the Biden campaign team were present there today. Appearances included Robert De Niro, Harry Dunn (former Capitol Police officer) and Michael Fanone (former Capitol Police officer), all of whom have become active members of the Biden campaign.
