My guess is that Trump’s lawyers will tell him not to complain about the judge, prosecution, witnesses, and jury, to the presentencing investigator, and that Trump will comply. We saw in the trial that when he knows crossing a red line would inevitably lead to jail, he does not cross it.
However, I would think they want more than that. If it was a case with a drug pusher, they would want to hear the convict say he was now honestly working long shifts at, say, McDonalds. They might not wholly believe it, but it is a positive sign. if the dealer literally refuses to come up with a good story on how they are turning their life around, there is going to be a long sentence. Right? And here we have Trump, in 2024, doing the same job he was convicted to doing, in an illegal manner, in 2016, with similar rhetoric. I don’t see how they can go easy on someone like that, although maybe they will.
I think it would have helped Trump’s defense if they didn’t deny he had sex with Stormy Daniels. To see the defense argue something patently false had to undermine their credibility with the jury. As we’ve heard, it’s tough to say what a jury might do. But I think had Trump let his lawyers handle his case it’s more likely he would have emerged victorious. Just like his civil cases.
It’s interesting hearing Blanche on CNN when asked why the defense didn’t call certain witnesses, Keith Shiller and Allen Weisselberg, said it was a “loaded question” for any prosecutor to answer because “this is American and we [the defense] don’t have the burden of proof.” He argues the prosecution should have called those witnesses but doesn’t say why. Dude, if you think they could have helped Trump you should have called them, my man.
