Manhattan Prosecutors file criminal charges for Trump re Stormy Daniels case - ongoing discussion here (Guilty on all 34 counts, May 30, 2024)

If he continues to rant publicly that the trial was rigged, I imagine an interviewer would be dubious about any apologia during a private pre-sentencing interview.

I disagree. While I think a lot of presidents use golfing, at least in part, because it’s one of the few places where they don’t have to worry about cameras and reporters and the general public hovering around them the whole time. I think Trump likely used that time to wheel and deal without the fear of anyone listening in or recording/photographing anything.

Never mind

I thought he nailed it.

That guy was actually a shill from the Kimmel show.

I saw that clip. The guy’s been doing these types of pranks for years.

But if you didn’t know, how could you tell?

And damn good at what he does!

Be that as it may, he tweeted a complaint about Obama every time that he would golf instead of spend his time doing presidential things and said that, as president, he wouldn’t ever play golf because he wouldn’t have the time to.

If he golfed more than 200 times, with each game taking about 4 hours, then that’s 800 hours of community service.

You really want to argue against 800 hours of duly earned community service? There isn’t going to be a time machine that shows up and retroactively makes him spend more time doing presidential stuff, between 2017 and 2021. This is simply punishing him for running his mouth, and for lying to his supporters.

His supporters will have to admit that he earned it.

His supporters will not admit anything. Ever.

Yeah, they will. You just have to be a dick about it and know that when the disappear off in a huff, that they’ve accepted it.

Merchan: Mr Trump, you must release your tax returns, as you promised to do for the American people in 2016.

MAGA: That’s not fair because Nancy Pelosi didn’t, either!

You: Trump said that he was going to do it. Pelosi never said she would. Every president since Nixon did it, including everyone that Trump ran against. No House Majority leader has ever done it. Trump went into the White House saying that he was going to Drain the Swamp and he never once proposed anything like a law saying that people needed to show their tax returns to run for office. Neither did Pelosi but, again, she never said that she was going to drain the swamp nor show her return. All you’re telling me is that he’s equal to her in everything that matters but, unlike her, he lies about it more. Woohoo?

MAGA: F*** you man.

You: You already f’ed yourself. Good luck not getting screwed even more.

Alas I just listened to Wait Wait, and it was a clip show.

Pelosi didn’t release her taxes? I thought all presidential candidates did anymore… hey, wait a minute!

I once was sitting in a waiting room and two MAGAs were talking about how bad the country had been under Obama and Pelosi. It was interesting when they blamed Pelosi for the Patriot Act and its encroachment on their freedoms.

Moderating:

It would be nice to leave this thread open through the sentencing. But if you all can’t stop hijacking it, I’ll close it instead.

If your comment doesn’t have something to do with this case specifically, make it elsewhere.

This seems so likely to be the way it goes down that I think your post should simply be read on every cable news show when their panels turn to the topic of ‘what will happen in Trump’s pre-sentencing probation interview?

(My bolding.) This is correct. Trump’s people may well be lying about the amount raised–both to keep Donald happy and to try to implant the idea that The American People Are Rising Up In Outrage At What Has Been Done To Our Hero.

Of course any donations received are likely to come only from the MAGA base–who were going to vote for him anyway.

What matters about the verdict, from the point of view of the November election results, is how it affects non-base people. Does it make them more or less likely to get out and vote? And if they do get out, are they now more or less likely to vote for Trump?

Bottom line: the Trumpite talk about $53 million dollars is meaningless.

Adding to your post, I read a couple articles indicating some wealthy donors (the MyPillow guy-type) have suggested they threw-in $300K to $5M. If true, then that greatly diminishes the sheer number of donors, substantially. Whatever helps to fluff their sails.

Is it? Or does he have it shielded somehow in a PAC. “I can’t use that money for personal debts, that would be illegal!”

like he cares…

Using the same mathematical precision with which they estimated the size of the crowd at his <gag> inauguration.
