Manhattan Prosecutors file criminal charges for Trump re Stormy Daniels case - ongoing discussion here (Guilty on all 34 counts, May 30, 2024)

Trump to music. I’m so indicted. 23 seconds long.

That is chef’s kiss perfection! :joy:

Stephen Colbert had a “Wanted” sign with Trump that said “WANTED… for following too many laws”

Beautiful perfect laws said the man with tears in his eyes.

OK, I’ll say it: I’m disappointed. I’m not optimistic that Bragg will be able to make criminal charges stick, and if he doesn’t, AIUI misdemeanor charges are off the table, too, because of the statute of limitations. In short, in the large scheme of things this is small potatoes that gives Trump ample opportunity to air his grievances of persecution.

But I’m optimistic that on the big picture overall, justice will be done. My hope is that Georgia election interference, mishandling classified documents, and obstruction of justice related to the latter, will come raining down on Trump like a ton of bricks, and the Daniels case will just be a thorn in Trump’s side for another year or so, the icing on the cake, so to speak. I’m less optimistic that the Jan 6 insurrection is a provable crime by the Orange One, but he deserves to have that one hanging over his head like the proverbial sword of Damocles.

This is just…I dunno…I am amazed they posted this:

Nah…not the least bit amazing. Eggszackly what you’d expect from Fucks News.

Any reason?

$15 is just a little more than I send when I want the effort to process my check to be more trouble than it’s worth.

It’s only $15 CLAIMED! What about the other $35?

I know Fox News embraces the stoopid but this is a special level of dumb.

I hope the other $35 went to a nice bottle of wine.

I would, personally, be fine with a judge that was politically neutral. I don’t think it would affect the outcome but it would shut down one avenue of whining.

But, so far, I wouldn’t say that they’ve found enough to call for a recusal.

You rarely see a double standard as stark as:

$15 to Biden: bad
Decades of Thomas accepting millions in undisclosed gifts: just fine.

The problem is that there’s nothing new here. 34 charges is a lot of charges, but we’ve known about the Stormy Daniel’s affair for several years now already. There is not enough here to sustain interest. And it brings Trump to the forefront of people’s consciousness again. He was dying out there and very few were showing up to his rallies. Almost no one was showing up to his protests. This just puts him in the news cycle again, something we don’t need. I believe he should have been answerable to these allegations, but years ago. If you’re going to indict the man, at least make it for something we didn’t already know about.

I guess having a gangster lawyer sounding guy on your legal team is endearing to the MAGAts who love the tough guy, bellicose tone. I don’t think that will help to persuade the jury in the long run.

Thank the Trump/Barr DOJ for that. Bill Barr killed the investigations at both the federal and state levels. We have the words of both the men who ran SDNY (federal, Geoff Berman) and Manhattan DA’s office (state, Cy Vance) on this interference.

Do you still think Trump shouldn’t be held to account, simply because he was able to successfully delay the prosecutions for a time? I don’t.

Cases are brought when they are ready to be brought. As this was the oldest and least complex of likely pending criminal charges against Trump, it’s no surprise it was brought first.

Politics should never be a consideration for prosecutors. Investigate the allegations, bring a case if warranted and leave the politics out of it.

Agree. I also think that the time limits for the statute of limitations clock should stop ticking for any elected official.
“About that crime you committed 8 years ago? It can still be prosecuted. Also the one you committed while in office”

This is one of the reasons that Trump is running for Pres again. The other big one being the grift of course. And the third is to keep his narcistic ass front and center.

I’m not saying he shouldn’t be charged. I’m saying it doesn’t have the dramatic impact the Dems were hoping for. It doesn’t sway MAGA-heads and it just injects Trump into the news again. And if he does get off, even on a technicality, he’s Teflon-man. I’ll bet there are tons of other women he’s had affairs with or sexually assaulted. It would be great if more of them came out of the woodwork. The attempted vote manipulation in Georgia is also better grounds for censure.

Has anyone on the Dem side considered that Trump is the best thing to happen to them? If a more intelligent opponent were to run he or she could actually win over more supporters. And Biden should be handing it off to a much younger candidate, but that doesn’t seem likely as long as Trump is running.

Just to clarify (someone correct me if I’m wrong): Of course, he has probably sexually assaulted and paid off plenty of women. AIUI this case isn’t about the fact that he paid hush money to Stormy, it’s that he paid her out of campaign funds and claimed the payment as a campaign expense.
