Manhattan Prosecutors file criminal charges for Trump re Stormy Daniels case - ongoing discussion here (Guilty on all 34 counts, May 30, 2024)

Shades of January 6th.

Aaahhhh. Good times.

I don’t believe that every NYC Republican would automatically vote to acquit Trump after hearing the evidence.

And, a hung jury is not the same as “walks free.” Although this case has unusual timing considerations with an election looming.

Wow! I’m impressed. And heartened.

Correct. Juror No. 1 was allowed to be seated.

Six total have been seated. Six more plus ~6 alternates still needed.

Yes, of course. But it gets tiresome to lead with that caveat whenever evaluating a case or piece of evidence. To me, it’s an unspoken given.

Yes. Which mean they have to keep them or burn one of their preemptory challenges

The judge in the Waukesha Christmas Parade Massacre put the defendant in a different room with an AV feed and a mic/cam on him. He was being extraordinarily disruptive (he seemed to be a sort of quasi sovereign citizen) and the judge would warn him multiple times before putting him in another room, gave him every opportunity to come back if he was willing to behave and by the end of it, she muted his mic and he had hold signs up to the camera.

I just noticed the sign is laminated, I’m guessing this isn’t the first time this method has been used.

Interestingly, IIRC, she’d tell him he could come back to the courtroom if he would behave and he’d respond with ‘so you’re saying I can’t come back’, which is exactly what Trump is doing WRT Barron’s graduation. Merchan said he can have the day off for it as long as things are on schedule and he responded by saying “the judge won’t let me go to his graduation”.

no, but I would guess that a Maga cultist Republican in NYC can more easily pass as a normal, rational Republican. Being a resident of NY, they will be a bit more sophisticated and harder to identify (and thus exclude from the jury.)
Unlike, say, a red-cap-wearing guy in Alabama who drives to the courthouse in his pickup truck equipped wiith a gun rack to hold his hunting rifles.
It only takes one such person.

I actually LOLed at that. I don’t know if it’s funnier if you’re a New Yorker or if you aren’t.

It goes back quite a ways:

Well, what he means is “I plan on making sure the trial will not be on schedule”

And if CNN’s reporting is accurate Team Trump has used 6 of their 10 peremptory challenges. The prosecution has used 4.

I was thinking Merchan should grant his request. Given that Trump probably doesn’t want to actually be at the graduation, clear the schedule for the afternoon, let Trump leave with enough time to get to the ceremony and make sure he’s back in court at 8am the next business day.
But, and I think I said this earlier, require him to be there. He requested the day off to attend the graduation, that means no rallies, no golf, no fundraisers etc.

the googling going on by the lawyers are proving “the internet is forever”.

Got to admit I didn’t see this coming:

Donald Trump is expected after court Tuesday to stop at a Manhattan bodega where an employee stabbed a man in a 2022 incident that sparked backlash against Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who is leading the hush money case against the former president.

Picking up a Coke and a pack of Marlboro Lights for the drive home?

“People are getting stabbed in this city and they want to investigate me instead. UNFAIR! SAD!”

I’ve said it countless times: he does know his audience.

Not sure what he’ll pick up at the bodega, but I know what he hopes to leave behind: fast FUD.

I mean I didn’t see this exact this thing but this is exactly the kind of thing I expected. This is the kind of thing that has worked in the past when he’s got into trouble (e.g. trotting out Bill Clinton’s harassment accusers after the access Hollywood tape) , but he just doesn’t get that this is a criminal trial, you can’t get out from under it so easily.
