When dealing with slang, usually young people are more in touch with what it currently means.
And, yes, don’t correct people on Facebook, unless you are friends and you know it’s welcome. You might be able to get away with a joke, but that’s it. And I wouldn’t even do that with a kid you don’t know.
I probably would have said something about Movember (aka no-shave November) myself.
Hmm, I’m actually now a bit concerned about that. In this case I’m all, “God I hope so!” But I have used Facebook in the past (on one occasion) to apologize for unfortunate behavior in real life (a case of me being in a bar, very drunk, and acting very inappropriately). The next day, remembering what I’d done, I looked up the young lady in question on Facebook and messaged a sincere apology. I specifically did not include a friend request with the apology (and I also made no “I was drunk” excuses, because I don’t believe that’s an excuse). I made my apology, stated that I expected no response, and also stated that I would not attempt to contact her again. I got no response, and made no further attempt to contact her, and put it behind me.
Now I’m concerned that she never received my apology. (But I’m still sticking to my promise to not try to contact her again.)
Which thing?
In any case, it’s been a couple days and nobody involved has said anything.
