Try buying the houses as soon as they go on the market, and selling them as soon as the price starts to drop. My strategy was to start with one cheap house, then several. When I could buy one mid leval one, I’d stop buying cheap ones. With a combo, though, I can see how this could be done in less than 18.

Got bored and tried it again. 18 years 2 months.

It seems that getting a shorter time is somewhat luck based. If you don’t get any of the cheap homes available quickly, it drags out a lot longer. I played one game that I had hit nearly the 2 year mark before a cheap house popped up, that game took 19 years.
