You’re right. It’s Expano Mapcase who misspelled it. Jennings spells the name correctly in his book.

You’re not the only one- Bob Denver thought so, too, according to Gilligan’s Island creator Sherwood Schwartz. A early press release stated the character’s full name was Willy Gilligan, which Schwartz stands by, but the full name was never revealed on the show.
