Maple syrup, and my new hairstyle

Yes, maple syrup is yummy. But does it have to be so sticky?

I made a maple-glazed turkey breast for dinner one night this weekend. It was very good. But, when it came time to do the dishes, the pan the turkey had been in brushed up against my hair. When I finished, I noticed a sticky mess in my hair. Yuck!

I figured the syrup wouldn’t come out, so my only option was to cut it out. Now I have one lock of hair, near where I part it, that’s a lot shorter than the rest. It gives me a sort of feathered look. I don’t think it looks bad, but I’m sure I’m going to get some weird looks from the hairdresser next time I go. I just hope they don’t try to cut it all to the same length, because that lock of hair is about two inches long…

Why assume the maple syrup won’t come out? It would most likely come out simply by rinsing with warm water. That’s OK, you hair looks stunning that way.

You over reacted. It would have rinsed out.

Now to the most important part of the OP: got any leftovers? That sounds like good turkey!

I think I like it this way. It stays out of my face better- I have fine hair, and it always tends to drift into my face.

We have leftovers, but they are all for us, and they are guarded by an Attack Cat!

We gave the Attack Cat some turkey, after she begged piteously (if you’d heard her, you would have thought she hadn’t eaten for a week). Now, if we try to give our other cat some turkey, the Attack Cat growls at her and eats the turkey herself.

Here is the recipe we used, if you are interested in making some maple-glazed turkey for yourself.

I always knew there was something about Anne…

But…but, how did the turkey pan end up on your hair, or vice versa???

Yeah I hate it when that happens.

I once opened a can of beer, which it turns out someone had shaken up. Groan. Well it sprayed all over my face and my hair was covered in beer. It was terrible. So I shaved all my hair off, because when at first I shaved just the bits that had beer in it it looked funny.

Jeepers, did I ever get some weird looks from the hairdresser when I told them what happened.

Okay, for future reference, chewing gum doesn’t wash out…use ice or peanut butter, cut out as last resort. Things that you can wash off a dish in a sink (sticky stuff like, oh, say syrup) will also wash out of your hair. Always try the least aggresive solution first. I can’t believe you went straight for the scissors!

I had a friend once whose small son had crayoned a little on a new coffee table. Instead of trying furniture polish first, she panicked at her husband’s imagined reaction and went straight to nail polish remover…which removed the finish and the stain, resulting in a huge repair bill for refinishing. And the worst part was, she had come over and asked all us neighborhood moms what to do (my solution was to cover it up with a bowl of fruit until she could get to a store for the proper remover…she said the mark was off-center and she couldn’t have the bowl off-center, not even for two hours). We had offered her furniture cleaner, etc, but she went straight to panic-mode. I always wondered about the underlying dynamics in that marriage.

I have fine hair, which tends to flop into my face. It flopped forward while I was getting the turkey pan out of the sink, and got into the maple syrup.

I can only blame sleep deprivation the previous night for my deciding to go for the scissors right away. But I’ve decided I like my new 'do- the hair on that side stays out of my face a lot better now, and I like the feathered look that I’ve got.

Hehe, Oooh, Okay, I was twisting my OWN little blonde brain in an attempt to picture the “incident”.

And I can relate to the fire alarm thing, UGH, you poor thing. But now, you have to share the maple syrup glaze recipe with us. hehe
