Marc Almond and Mark-Almond

Soft Cell singer Marc Almond is in critical condition after a serious motorcycle accident.

I wish him a speedy and full recovery, of course, but seeing his name makes me remember an old question that I never saw answered.

Back in the 1970s, the Mark-Almond Band was composed of Jon Mark and Johnny Almond, both veterans of the British music scene.

Later, the much younger Peter Almond changed his name to Marc Almond before hitting it big with Soft Cell.

So, is there a connection between Peter and Johnny Almond? Did Peter change his name to Marc in some sort of homage or for some weird name recognition reason? Or is it all a big coincidence?

I don’t know the answer to your question, but when I heard that Marc Almond was in critical condition I didn’t know that he had been in Soft Cell; I knew his name from the 1985 single Stories of Johnny. Hmm… :wink:
