i’ve heard that there’s CO and even some formaldahyide(sp?) in cigarette smoke, but what about marijuana smoke? there was a myth that there’s 420 different chemicals in weed or its smoke, not sure which, that has been proven wrong on several websites who say there’s only like 350. does anyone know anything about it? (and don’t say tetrahydrocannibinol or THC… i already know THAT one).
unless one smokes all-grass roll-ups, the question of what tobacco smoke contains is still pertinant, surely?
why not make some nice brownies instead?
and i’m sure this will be locked soonish.
Most people in the US do smoke only bud in their, ahem, special cigarettes. The tobacco/pot mixture is a largely European (and perhaps elsewhere) phenomenon.
In response to the OP, most burning plant matter will contain trace amounts of all sorts of nasty chemicals; this doesn’t mean that you’re ingesting enough to do any real damage. I don’t believe there has been a single documented case of lung cancer that was solely attributed to marijuana smoke, although the problem with this is that a large number of pot smokers also smoke cigarettes. Counting the number of chemicals present in something like smoke is no easy task, and estimates on how many chemicals are present vary.
Basically, pot smoke is probably not healthy for you, but probably not as bad as cigarette smoke – and how many pot smokers smoke a pack of joints a day?
Found this, FWIW. Comparison of chemicals in tobacco and marijuana smoke.

You can find factoids all over the Web that say there are anywhere from 300 to 2,000 chemicals in marijuana smoke.
But you are unlikely to find any reputable study proving anyone has died of smoking marijuana alone.
If half of what is said about marijuana’s bad effects were true we’d see a lot of sick Rastafarians, but we dont…
It wont make you die, it wont make you impotent or turn you into a girl or a communist or whatever.
It may make you crave cheetos and other snack foods
Smoking marijuana can result in a peculiar syndrome: you’ll dress exactly like everyone else. You’ll lie around watching TV all day. You’ll eat drab, tasteless food every day. You’ll be extremely obediant to authority figures. You’ll find yourself unable to leave home. In short, you’ll in jail. None of this is caused by the drug, of course. It’s caused by marijuana prohibition. Right now, you’re probably paying legislators who are making the law even worse.
There’s a grass-roots movement to change the law. It’s time to…aw, RATS! We’re outa pretzels.
The number of chemicals is totally irrelevant. There are several hundred different chemicals in most of the produce we eat every day.
Also, from what I’ve read at the New Scientist special report on marijuana pot smoke contains far more tar than cigarette smoke, however it is also far less fine and most of it is deposited on the bronchi and bronchioles, the large branching tubes in your lungs. Filtered cigarette smoke however reaches the alveoli, the tiny air sacs where oxygen is transferred to your bloodstream. Consequently, habitual pot smokers are highly susceptible to bronchitis, but not emphysema, the smoking-related disease characterized by deformed alveoli. Also despite their best efforts, scientists have been unable to definitively link marijuana and lung cancer.
It’s not health food, but its one of, if not the least harmful recreational drug out there.
Soon, you may be able to get your smoke inna tank!
“420 different chemicals”
420? Hmmm, that number sounds familiar
