I just bought tickets for the show in NYC in May. It’s not the closest he will be to to Nova Scotia but we like an opportunity to visit the big city.
He is playing the United Palace which I hear is a grand place. Problem is, it’s way up at Broadway and 175th almost to the GWB. We’ve only been to NY twice. Once stayed in Queens and took the LIRR into town. Most recently, we stayed in Midtown at a place called “The Blakely” on 55th which was very nice. We are being encouraged to stay at the Casablanca which everyone on tripadvisor.com seems to love.
Are there any good places to stay closer to the theatre? Does it make more sense to stay closer to midtown?
It looks like we can oly go for about four days. Thanks!
That’s my neck of the woods. I don’t think there’s many hotels up here, but you may want to search for “Washington Heights hotels”. My advice though is just to stay in midtown (or maybe somewhere on the Upper West Side) and give yourself more time for the commute, especially coming back after the show. Just make sure you stay somewhere by the 1 or C train and you should be fine.
Thanks for the tip. I will have print this stuff out as the NY subway system is rather a mystery. What I know about subways, I learned in Toronto.
I guessing that cab fare from midtown to 175th would be rather prohibitive?
Eh, not really. Probably $10-$15 each way. I’m just used to suggesting the subway since I assume everyone knows the system… it’s a bad assumption. Yeah, grab a cab and maybe even get his number and call him after the show in case you can’t find one on the way back (most cabbies don’t have a problem with this).
