Before her nose job, before her weight loss, and when her hair was still black, I thought Ashlee was a dynamite cutie, and definitely of my preferred gender. I’m not fond of the choices she made in changing her looks, but she’s still not bad looking. I neither dislike nor like what I’ve heard of her music, but will note that I actually do like pop music, so there’s always a chance that she’s done a song or two I’d like. And her biggest “scandal” to date involves a lip-synch screw-up on a TV show, the horror.
Mark McGwire isn’t my preferred gender. I’m still grossed out by the mental image I have of his bared hamhock-like arms when he gave press conferences during the home run chase. I don’t care for sports, either, so there’s no chance he’s done anything I’d care about. And his biggest scandal to date has been an admission of steroid use, which has tarnished his accomplishments. But, one positive note that atones for much of this and that Ashlee can’t touch: he started a charitable foundation that helps abused children.
How is Mark McGwire disgraced when he was competing at a game where the other competitors at the time also used steroids? These guys were trying to make a living, and if they thought they were at a competitive disadvantage if they didn’t use steroids (and they were), then they were not bringing home as much money to their family as they could. Yeah, the all time records may not stand up to other eras, but it is a paying job. If your accountant didn’t do everything legal for you because it was “disgraceful” that would be cause for a lawsuit, and then if that lawyer didn’t do all that was legal … well, you get the point. It’s about making money for their families.
I find it interesting that after Major League baseball started cracking down on steroids, not one single team approached Ashlee Simpson to beef up their lineup. Coincidence?
He is a batting instructor now. I was worried that the benefits of proper drug usage would die with him. Now he can pass his knowledge on to future baseball players.
Ashlee has already disappeared. that is good.
