I didn’t even know they were ever an item.
Do I have to go on? Surely you’ve all written the obvious punch line to this set-up. But here it is anyway:
“She would never pair fava beans and chianti with human liver.”
It turns out that it’s not all that far off the mark
Appearing on “The Ellen Show” on Thursday, the 80-year-old lifestyle guru and TV personality said she had to break up with the Welsh Oscar-winner, 84, after recalling his chilling performance in the 1991 horror thriller “The Silence of the Lambs.”
…
During a game of “Two Truths and a Lie” called, “Where’s the Lie, Martha?” one of the clues read: “I dated Sir Anthony Hopkins but broke up with him because I couldn’t stop thinking of him as Hannibal Lecter.”

Huh, I had not known that either.
“I dated Sir Anthony Hopkins but broke up with him because I couldn’t stop thinking of him as Hannibal Lecter.”
If that’s the real reason she broke up with him it’s a stupid one, but I imagine that’s just the public, ‘polite’ reason.
Yeah, I’d pair human liver with a nice Pinot Noir, myself.
Lost a lot of respect for Sir Tony here.
What about sweet breads, and what wine with brains?
I’d swear I knew this already and, yep, at least eight year old news:

Yeah, I heard about this in 2012 Martha Stewart Plays Not My Job : NPR - and Peter Sagal says he learned that fact from Wikipedia, which means it’s older news than that.
I learned about them dating (and her reason for breaking it off) when I found out this and started reading up on him:
It was dumbed down for the movie, but in the book Hannibal went for “a big Amarone” with fava beans and liver.
I’ve seen so many greasy, fatty and cirrhotic livers that I’d need a bottle of vodka to wash down such a dish.
Maybe Anthony Hopkins couldn’t get past the idea that he was dating Martha Stewart .
Maybe she found him too taxing.

I have no idea if that’s the real reason and I don’t know if I should be judgmental about it, but Sir Anthony’s performance in that movie was amazing and truly chilling. I don’t think there are many actors who could have pulled it off nearly as well.

Am I the only one surprised to find out that she’s 80? I would’ve guessed 60-something.

I just checked to make sure that Anthony Hopkins was recognized for his amazing performance in Silence of the Lambs , and indeed he was – won the Best Actor Oscar, while Jodie Foster also won an Oscar, and in fact the film won all “Big Five” Oscars.
