What a great “fuck off” break up song! 80s flashback warning.
They used to show music videos on USA network late at night, and my friend and I would watch it regularly. Pretty sure I first heard this song by watching one of those shows. Great tune - it’s still in my random play list today.
I think the USA show was called “Night Flight”. Loved that show.
There was also “Night Tracks” on TBS and “Friday Night Videos” on NBC. MTV was around, but our cable system didn’t carry it yet. Those shows gave us our video fixes and I remember “Salt In My Tears” being one of the videos in rotation.
Very much remember this song. Teenage me liked the hot girl in the video and making dumb, crude parodies of the title that teenage me thought was hilarious.
Also loved Night Flight BTW.
For some reason I group this song with Battleship Chains by the Georgia Satellites; maybe they came out around the same time. Hey ho misogyny in rock ‘n’ roll.
Hearkens back in spirit to an old song (1929 or so?) by Bix Beiderbecke: “There Ain’t No Sweet Man Worth the Salt of my Tears.”
