I hope he does NOT get released due to “time served”. Hopefully they seized every damn thing he owns by now, too.

Seized and sold, hopefully. Besides not being able to happen to a nicer guy, it would shine a spotlight on the shady forfeiture laws that desperately needs to be shone. Win-win.

Yes. Send him up, and fix forfeiture laws AFTER. At least, so they can’t be invoked until AFTER a conviction - not the legalized robbery we have now.
Having the fruits of his crime seized after a criminal conviction is not relevant to the abuse of forfeiture laws as a form of (literal, in some cases) highway robbery by the police.
That would be true if I only wanted the police to restrict their procurement activities to the fruits of his crime, as opposed to leaving him with nothing but his socks.
Only in the service of shining a spotlight on the criminal procurement activities, mind you. It would quite hypocritical of me to want the dude to be semilegally robbed simply because he’s an irredeemable shitbag.
A bump for some related news: Martin Shkreli’s ex-lawyer found guilty of financial fraud .
A lawyer accused of helping pharmaceutical entrepreneur Martin Shkreli cover up a financial fraud was convicted on Wednesday, a result a prosecutor said should send a “powerful message” through the legal profession.
After an 11-week trial, Evan Greebel was convicted by a federal jury in Brooklyn of conspiring to commit securities fraud and wire fraud. His lawyer, Reed Brodsky, said they were “shocked by the verdict.”
Yes, I’m sure it was a total surprise.
I thought about starting a new thread (and maybe one in Great Debates about this, too), but figured why bother; this one is still perfectly suited to our needs.
Here’s the story :
Prosecutors are expected to argue in federal court in Brooklyn that Shkreli is on the hook for more than $7 million. Along with the Wu-Tang Clan “Once Upon a Time in Shaolin” album that Shkreli has boasted he bought for $2 million, prosecutors have said he should give up $5 million in cash in a brokerage account, his interest in a pharmaceutical company and other valuables including a Picasso painting.
The defense has said the brash former pharmaceutical CEO owes nothing because in the end, his investors did not lose the money.
I keep hoping to read, “Martin Shkreli: Smirking no longer - serving his time blowing fellow prisoners for cigarettes”
According to this story, his lawyer said in reference to his prison time.
…in with the general population and “was doing reasonably well under difficult circumstances.” So, yeah…he’s trading blowjobs for cigarettes.
And the courtroom artist drawing cracked me up, it looks like it was done by a child.

CNBC is showing a new episode of American Greed tonight about Shkreli.
ETA: Warning, it has autoplay video.
This is a two round initial contest, and in the first round, Shkreli’s assets lost !
“Pharma Bro” Martin Shkreli was responsible for nearly $10.5 million in losses in a securities fraud scheme, a judge ruled Monday, a blow to the defense that could result in a harsher sentence for the eccentric former pharmaceutical company CEO.
U.S. District Judge Kiyo Matsumoto rejected arguments by Shkreli’s lawyers that investors in two failed hedge funds didn’t suffer actual losses because he compensated them with drug company stock that, in the end, more than covered their initial investments.
In a written decision in federal court in Brooklyn, the judge found Shkreli should be penalized for the losses because he made risky transactions with investors’ millions without their permission.
After dipping into investor money from one of the hedge funds to keep his drug company startup afloat, Shkreli “used some the funds to satisfy both personal and unrelated professional obligations,” including a $900,000 debt for a bad stock market trade, she wrote.
Round two is where we see just how many of his assets cease being his.

I just read somewhere (don’t remember where) that this shitbag may be looking at ten years - with nothing taken off for time served or any such nonsense.

Sure sounds like stealing to me.
Shkreli told to forfeit only $7.3M but he’s gonna lose that Wu-Tang album!
U.S. District Judge Kiyo Matsumoto issued the order against the jailed Shkreli four days before he is to face sentencing for his conviction last year on charges he cheated wealthy investors in two failed hedge funds he was managing.
Along with the Wu-Tang Clan “Once Upon a Time in Shaolin” album that Shkreli has boasted he bought for $2 million, he would have to give up $5 million in cash in a brokerage account. He also would be forced to forfeit other valuables including a Picasso painting and another unreleased recording that he claims he owns, “Tha Carter V” by Lil Wayne.
John Coffee, director at Columbia University Law School, told CNBC, “Under the Sentencing Guidelines, the gain or loss from the offense is a principal factor in determining the sentence.”“Such a finding of loss could justify a 10-year sentence — or longer. But federal judges no longer have to follow the guidelines and they are only advisory,” Coffee said
And if we’re lucky,at Friday’s hearing the judge will be a little harsher.
The prisoner with the most punchable face in America deserves it.
