I agree the mystery of what happened to Coulson is also significant. I’m just raising the separate point of Shield concealing his death without questioning the method used.
It could be an interesting point in the upcoming Captain America movie. From the ads, it’s apparent Steve Rodgers is questioning where his loyalty lies. Somebody trying to sway him against Shield might reveal that Coulson is alive and that Fury lied to manipulate him at a critical moment.
