Didn’t she wake up in a twin-bed next to Rob Petrie or am I thinking of a different show made by MTM that also aired on Saturday nights?
No matter, all three shows (and we) are part of the Tommy Westphall / St. Elswhere-verse

After putting him through medical school, she expected they would get married. His reply was “Why rush things?” That’s when she upped and moved to Minneapolis. When he followed her there and tried to win her back, he said “Mary, I … love you.” Her reply was “I just noticed you don’t say that very well.”
“So … that’s it, then?”
“I think so. Good bye, [whatever his name was].”
So in the end, she dumped him.
She did do a special with Dick van Dyke, where they were (to the best of my recollection) casting the wife for his new sitcom, and she didn’t get the part.
Glad to hear it. I just watched most of the first episode again, and I didn’t remember anything about the 2nd half of the show (53 years later). His name was Bill.
Well thanks guys for sending me down a Rhoda rabbit hole. How depressing.
So apparently Joe and Rhodas divorce is what broke the show. I agree they married too quickly, but I don’t blame viewers. Life in the 70’s is depressing enough without bringing it into your living room no matter how realistic.
I forgot “Carlton the Doorman” was a Rhoda thing. I also didn’t know there was an unpicked up animated Carlton spinoff pilot.
Also…this played on the radio??

An SNL cold open: Ed Asner as Lou Grant hiring a mercenary team to rescue his old pal Mary Richards from syndication:
Rich Hall/Mercenary 1: Is it true what they say about her?
Asner: What?
Mercenary 1: That she could turn the world on with her smile?
Asner: (nodding) Yes she could
Jim Belushi/Mercenary 2: And could she really take a nothing day and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile?
Asner: No of course not! Don’t be stupid!
(Julia Lewis-Dreyfus is Rhoda)
SNL Cold Open with Ed Asner
I find this interesting. In Season 1 the lyrics contained:
You might just make it after all
The lyrics were changed for seasons 2 though 7:
You’re gonna make it after all
Guess she got more confident after Season 1. ![]()
Watching Rhoda was like watching a Kosher chick flick. Julie Kavner was the best part of the series.
