Maryland Question

Why is Randy Newman’s “Short People” banned from the radio airwaves in Maryland? I’ve checked Google but only came up with “WEIRD LAWS” sites that mention it without any cites.

That’s really interesting to hear considering that I heard it on the radio when I was down in Maryland back in April. I was actually astounded to hear it because Randy Newman never gets any airplay anymore.

This is a joke, right?

What put the concept into your head?

Just off the top of my head, Heptapod, a number of people were really deeply offended by the song, back in the day, so I wouldn’t be surprised to find that Maryland may have some sort of radio airplay consensus going that it shouldn’t be played.

I doubt whether it’s actually “illegal” to play it, though.

One of the many links regarding this law. I checked snopes to see if this was an urban legend but there weren’t any results. It came to my attention while watching VH1’s one hit wonders special as a sidebar.

Hey! It’s Maryland. They do things… Differently.
