Then they will walk away richer because with this Supreme Court, CAF like that won’t likely fly. That county is going to be buried under lawsuits for a generation.

It’s one thing to for the authorities to give up the prosecution because I would assume not a single one of the 177 bikers would testify, whether it be against the bikers in the rival gang or their fellows. And I would assume the surveillance camera logs were inadequate to prove a particular shot fired wasn’t in self defense, or who started it, or who touched which gun. (I would assume some of the bikers were already felons and not allowed to touch a gun)

But a civil jury isn’t going to be sympathetic.

How can any court in the United States say that $1M bail is not excessive in violation of the 8th Amendment? I mean, we all have that in our wallet or our checking account, right?

This is one of the most violated amendments in history and the courts do nothing except to keep requiring excessive bail.

Just saw this. Bail isn’t a fine or fee, it’s money willingly given up as an assurance the defendant will appear for court. It’s not a punishment, it’s a guarantee.
