I think all these efforts to save rare species are doomed.
The lack of habitat will doom these species. The one that survive will be so domesticated that they will lose any similarity to wild species.
You must be a young feller.
When I was but a lad, there were virtually no bald eagles in the lower 48 states. You never saw wild turkeys.
Now, thanks to conservation efforts, these two species have made amazing comebacks. The woods around here are full of turkeys. I was privileged to get my first up-close look at a bald eagle in the wild a few weeks ago.
Conservation efforts are not wasted.
Now, I will agree that efforts to save a species must be coupled with efforts to preserve habitat. An example of this is the effort we have made in the past thirty years or so to preserve wetlands for waterfowl. Thanks to that effort, I see Canada geese all over the place now. Never saw them as a child.
Do you have any specific species in mind?
