At least two gunmen, and possibly more, are currently firing at at least two mosques and a hospital between them in Christchurch, New Zealand. One of the shooters is an Australian who was live streaming as he shot.
Wow had to go back and look. When I got the alert it only said one location. Now BBC is saying four are in custody, three men and one woman. Way too early to say if that means anything. In custody does not necessarily mean they will turn out to be suspects.
It seems like it’s confirmed that one gunman was live streaming using a GoPro.

One of the last things the shooter said before entering the mosque was “subscribe to Pewdiepie”. It looks like his weapon was covered in meme stickers too. If anyone doubts that an alt-right pipeline exists and thrives by means of algorithmic information bubbles then this should quash it.

The video autostreamed. A guy in another chat site I frequent inadvertantly saw a gruesome murder before he turned it off. Fuck autoplay videos.
How do you reach “inadvertently” a webpage with such a video playing???
I just watched the video. Very disturbing. The shooter was pure evil.

YouTube has an “up next” feature which, if it is on and you don’t turn it off, will automatically play an algorithmically-related video after the one you are playing finishes. I do not know if all of the videos are keyed off the one you deliberately played or if they continue down into a crazy rabbit hole if you just let them keep going since I’ve never let them continue more than twice, but yes, you can see videos you did not deliberately wish to play.
I could see seeing a murder video by accident if it automatically came up next, and you were only paying half attention and/or the video was not labelled descriptively enough.
He was on Twitter, presumably reading about the incident, and it started playing with no warning.
I “inadvertently” see the first several seconds of video of every ad Facebook feeds to me, along with some videos that friend have posted/linked. I turned off “auto-next” on YouTube, but I used to inadvertently see all sorts of crap there. It seems completely unsurprising to me that this happened to him.
Because of Australia’s weird electoral system, the fucker managed to score a senate seat with just 19 votes last election.
However, he has been active on social media, amassing supporters with his racist rhetoric. It’s his last ditch attempt to score a senate seat in the next election.
I rarely use the word CUNT as a descriptor, but Fraser Anning certainly fits. There’s a few others of higher profiles here in Australia, but he is probably the most syphlitic one.
I have to say that I’ve never understood actually seeking out such videos.
Being confronted with shocking images by accident is one thing, actually searching out footage of men, women and children being shot and killed in cold blood is completely alien to me.
In the abstract I suppose I accept that some people have perhaps stronger stomachs than me and can watch such things and either get something from it or be unaffected by it but…shit, I just don’t need that horror in my head.
On the incident itself, horrifically typical I’m afraid. Poisonous, totalitarian ideology, attacking a soft target of innocent people.
