Upon hearing of Netamin’s “Ultimate Baseball Online” due out later this year (www.ultimatebaseballonline.com), I thought to myself why a game of this type has only come along now. The game sounds so intriguing. You control but a single player in a game, just as if you were actually playing. The server keeps track of your statistics. You can form teams with friends or random people online and play out a schedule. As you play more games, your player improves and moves up eventually to the big leagues. I don’t really know much about the game, but the most intriguing part of all this is that, while baseball is just great, this could be much more fun if applied to other sports such as basketball or hockey where every player is constantly playing and each position has close to equal importance, whereas in baseball, a player that chooses to be an outfielder might not have as much to do as a player that creates a pitcher who is always involved in the action with each pitch. Baseball is by far my favorite sport, but for a game like this, I would much sooner run out and buy a basketball game of its type, I think it would be a blast. However, there is no doubt in my mind that when this game is released, I will be the first in line as even a baseball based MMSG (massively multiplayer sports game) has unlimited potential.
