Masters

I am currently a student trying to get his bachelor’s degree. As I shall be graduating soon the question of higher education has been thrust upon me. My current bachelor’s will be in communication, a general sort of degree that will get me a general sort of job.
My real interest is in religion and ancient history. I was thinking about getting a masters in a new program here at my college that is basically a religion masters.
As far as I can tell, I can not get a good job with this sort of degree-aside from teaching it.
Does anyone know anything that might persuade me to pursue this desire, aside from learning for the sake of learning?

Forgive me for taking such a simplistic position, but if you don’t do what you love, you’ll hate what you do.

You say you don’t think you’ll be able to get a “good job” with the degree you’re thinking of pursuing. You need to ask yourself what defines “good job.” Is is earning $100,000 a year or is it going to work every day and doing something you enjoy? That’s something only you can answer for yourself, but you can get counseling through your school. Get some personality or career-aptitude testing. You might find that you have what it makes to be a great teacher or researcher or minister even, and that might help you decide.

Hope this helps. Keep us posted.

I’d say if there’s any doubt at all in your mind about taking a graduate degree, hold off on it a year or two. Going into a graduate program just out of a vague feeling you’re not sure what to do in life is a Bad Idea.
