Saturday, I watched a couple of college football games, and I saw something I don’t recall seeing before. On the sideline, there was a mat with ten spots, numbered 1-10 and arranged in two rows of five. It almost looked like a Twister mat. Does anyone know what this is?
How big was it?
About the size of a Twister mat, or maybe a little bit larger.
Did it look to be rigid like posterboard or floppy like a Twister mat? College playcallers have resorted to calling in plays to the QB via use of large cards with images/numbers on them - I wonder if it was part of such a system.
Floppy like a Twister mat.
I know what it is.
In college, sometimes the special teams coach wants those kids that are going out on a punt or kickoff to stand on their spot. This excludes the kicker, of course, but oftentimes in college, they screw up the kick by not having the right number of people on the field. So, the logic goes, anyway, if you aren’t standing on a number, you arent on the kick team, and if you do have a spot, you are.
I have seen this used rarely, but that’s what I’ve seen it used for.
Thanks! Almost sounds like something a kindergarten teacher would do. Some football players are probably on that intellectual level anyway.
