Maternity cycling shorts - yes/no and where?

Alrighty. Now (TMI) it must be said that my personal parts don’t like to ride without a nice pair of shorts. My current faves are Pearl Izumi Ultrasensor (the old chamois style, not that new crappy diaper-like insert). Now I’m thinking that I’ll need maternity shorts in about a month or two.

  1. Bicycle moms: did you buy shorts that were called “maternity”? Were you able to survive without them? (Note that I’ll be at my biggest when the snow is flying, so I won’t be riding then.)
  2. Any brand recommendations or places to buy them? I know Terry used to make a recommended pair, but I can’t seem to find any mention of them on the Terry website.
  3. Are they damn expensive, like all other maternity clothes?

P.S. I don’t think “Plus Size” would work, because I currently wear a small, and I think they would be too big everywhere but the belly. But I could be wrong.

I don’t have experience with them, but I did a search and came up with this: Reebok Maternity Bike Short

I just wanted to pop in and give you credit for being able to ride a bike and be pregnant at the same time

I’m lucky I can waddle and talk at the same time!

Good luck in your search

Thanks for searching, Ellen.

When I searched earlier, those Reebok shorts are the only ones I found. Unfortunately, I’m looking for something with padding/chamois, and ideally, I’d like shorts that are not cotton.

Have you considered a padded saddle instead? At least one woman I know has gone that route and had it work.

[hijack]There seems to be a lot of pregnant women here, just waiting for the Ask the Pregnant Woman thread[/hijack]

I purchased a bathing suit for lap swimming and running shorts from www.mothersinmotion.com when I was pregnant. The service and product quality was great.

Good luck!
