Matrix apart, pod-life Q

I was wondering what it would really do to the human body to live its first say twenty years inside a water-filled pod type thing, like in the Matrix. I know that when Neo came out they used needles or something to stimulate his muscles.

But if you had NEVER used any muscles save your heart beating, would they be atrophied beyond belief? Never developed?

What about teeth/baby teeth, if you never chewed anything?

What about eyes - wouldn’t your optic nerves not develop properly with no light?

And what about hair? Wouldn’t it just grow and grow?

etc etc. Any proper medical opinion on this?

I think hair stops growing at a certain length (which varies from person to person). As for the rest, I would think so.

one problem though…if the muscles are given an electrical stimulus while in the pod (remember all those different nodal points that neo’s body was hooked to?) then the muscles could maintain some strength(much like using the electrical stimulus after say knee surgeries). I think also this would play into the fact that the entire spinal cord was also hooked in with wiring so apparently some sort of stimulus was being sent throughout the body. Remember…it is physically possible to send electrical currents in a dead body and make the muscles contract…a biology professor I had once, showed us a clip from his doctorate study of making a dead cat walk by stimulating it’s muscles electrically…lol didn’t go far but nonetheless it was quite disturbing. But also, this is probably a pointless debate if you’ve seen the new movie…I’ll leave it at that. I have my own theory on the story of the matrix and where it is going and I have a distinct feeling it may tick a lot of fans off…hehe.

Tell us Joe, please. I just want to see if it’s different than what I’ve heard (which is a lot). Put it in a spoiler box if you must.

Human head and facial hair can keep growing for as long as the person is still alive. Body hair, on the other hand, grows to a predetermined length before it stops growing, then is pushed out when a new hair grows in behind it.

Well, I’m thinking…(i say this as I’m reading through a thread discussing the matrix endings) that we are going to see something similar to what everybody is writing…there are more matrices on top of the established one…and I think that in the end Neo will realize that none of them are real and he’ll “wake” up to find himself a hacker again…one who’s possibly trying to free mankind from the onslaught of the machines attempt to take over…just a WAG though.
