Mattel Football!

Wow, that’s cool! I am hoping that they didn’t ruin everything by making it more “hi-tech,” which has basically ruined any sort of electronic/video games as far as I’m concerned. I just want the little red dashes of light that represented players. That’s why the game was fun–it was all skill and no eye-candy. I too will go buy one as soon as I’m out of work.

Whoops. I just read that last line and it sounded like I’m waiting for unemployment. I meant “when work is over for the day.” Hee hee. (Didn’t get a chance to go look after work, though.)

Never fear, this is about as close to the original as they can get. The only difference I’ve noted, as was pointed out by Bad News Baboon is that the new version runs on AA batteries rather than 9 volts. I don’t care, I’m NOT a battery bigot!

15 dollars! My game cost more than that brand new! Hell No , I’ll just hold on to Mean Joe Green. My memories are worth more than 15 dollars!

Is it still made with red LED’s?

I’d totally forgotten that game.

Is that the one that had the commercials with real football players playing the game, losing to it, and then saying, “Hey…who’s in there?”?

I haven’t seen that commercial, but I’ll look out for it.

If he’s holding a little, white handheld game (a little bigger than a Nintendo Gameboy) it very may well be.

Tedster: Yes, it’s still got the little red lights and the beeping sounds. I played it with a friend while we were waiting for the games to start today (<highjack> DirectTV NFL package RULES!).

It was all of those things, except that I think it was green.

It’s probably a Mattel Football 2 then (and it was green). They added passing and the ability to run backwards in that version. That’s actually the one I remember playing most as a kid. I’m hopeful Mattel will re-release it as well.

Gah!!!

Help! I can’t find this anywhere. I went to Best Buy and they hadn’t even heard it was back out. Its not on the Best Buy or WalMart websites. I only see one entry on Yahoo Shopping for the keychain one. This sucks!

I don’t know about the Shockwave version, but both Football and Football II are available as stand-alone .exes:
