Which leg is uninjured?
It’s my left leg that’s uninjured.
Runner Pat, I would move back into the main house, but the bathroom there is smaller and harder to get into/work around, so I’m stuck here for a while longer. I’m not sure what other therapy I need, honestly. Of course I have the little exercises they gave me to use, but other than that, no real gym equipment.
And I’m not quite ready to drive yet. My ankle joint area isn’t very strong/flexible as it used to be, and I don’t know how well I’d do with the pedals.
And I found out the reason why I’ve been denied is because to the insurance company I’m not making significant progress in their eyes. Since I couldn’t put weight on my leg there was only so much I could do, but to them I guess I should be running by now. I went back and got new x-rays, but my doctor on Oahu is on vacation and won’t look at them for another week or two. Until then I’m stuck.
In the meantime I’m walking more with putting my leg down and using it, to help strengthen it more. No more hopping on one leg for me.
Maui Lion, I needed 18 months to put significant weight on my leg/start walking. Your insurance company is full of it. Do you have a State office that oversees insurance?
I’m…really not sure. I’ve heard from my therapy place that the insurance company has done this before with people who need extended periods of PT.
Not progressing fast enough? They won’t pay. Sounds typical to me. Don’t let them get away with it. See if there is someone the hospital can recommend to help you ensure you get your care. They may have a volunteer advocate to help you that knows how to put on the pressure. The papers or television may be interested in doing a story on your case too. They may also be the leverage to get this straightened out quickly. Your story is certainly worth covering.
If you’re having a problem with your insurer (which it sounds like you are) contact the state insurance department:

I figured it was your right leg that was messed up. It will take longer to start driving with that. Keep on working at rehabilitation.
